i wouldn't be upset over huselius but i'd prefer mueller by a long shot
- Don'tForgetTocchet

I'm cool with either player. My question is why did Mueller just get let go? Didn't the Av's have his rights but decided to let him walk?

Read is a very valuable piece. His production for 900K (not having studied the rest of the league) appears off the charts. Love my Phillies, but RAJ fell in love with the big star/Big contract and it's totally hamstrung th organization.

I'm a big Flyers fan, but don't get to see much of the rest of the league. are you referring to Peter Mueller of the Avalanche? Any reason they haven't resigned him?
- jstross

Probably his health. He looked OK after returning from his last concussion, but he's a bit of a risk and while he's shown flashes of brilliance, he's never been able to put it all together.

Big issue with both is health. I prefer Mueller because he's younger-and likely to be cheaper. Huselias is certainly more of a known commodity. Neither is a bad idea, especially if Doan stays put or signs somewhere besides Philly.

he has had some major conky issues and they did not offer him a qualifying offer

I'm not sure what it would take to land either Mueller or Huselius. I would think both are looking at 1-2 year deals and the max value of 2.5

I just want to add more scoring depth to the roster.

As much as I love Doan, I'm not sure I want to hand him a 4 year deal.
- LordStanley88

I wouldn't have a problem with a front loaded 4 years.

Year 1: 4 mil
Year 2: 4 mil
Year 3: 3 mil
Year 4: 2 mil

3.25 hit over 4 years. That's not too bad. If he retires in that 4th year or before it, he's only making about 2, and the hit we have to be held for isn't over the top.

I'm not sure if that's circumnavigating the cap or not. Don't know the rules there at all.

What do you think? 3.25 for his above average defense, 20+ goal lockability (is that a word? It is now...), and his tremendous intangibles.

I'm on board....

The Flyers have a chance if Doan believes Phoenix is now located in Philly. J/K you never know whats going to happen.

Here is a back-of-the-envelope balance sheet for a couple of years ahead:

It appears to me that 2013-14 is our year to go for it, assuming players develop as we hope. After that, Schenn, Couts are RFAs. Lets say they sign short term deals like Giroux's current deal by that time, which means an increase in salary of about 5 mil between the two of them for the club. Read is an UFA, add about 2.5 mil there at least if he keeps scoring 25 goals! Hartnell is probably signed by that time for at least 1.25 mil more. And Meszaros is an UFA (1 mil more, perhaps), while Kimmo comes off the books. Either we resign Kimmo at say 4 m or get someone else for same price so savings of about 2 m at most on that front perhaps. This means that there is a projected increase in salary from curent payroll of probably 10 mil, plus Giroux signing (another 5.5 mil).

In other words, no way in hell we can ice this much young talent by 2014-15. This means we need to go for it all in 2013-14 with this current lot.

Eddies pockets run deep, its Homers job to fit it in under the cap. No worries.

Doan, if he hits the market, will likely get 4 years, $20-$24mm
