worst case scenario - Steve Ott

I think his offense will translate better in the NHL, though

maybe schenn, you don't know and once again you change the argument because the idea that a team that can't draft dmen getting out in front of the situation a season early is dead on.
- isaiah520

And you don't know that any defenseman you wanted then to draft would've done it either. Schenn is established as a young NHL defenseman.
They drafted 4 defenseman in the last draft. You just want to criticize them because they didn't draft who you wanted them to draft. I'm not changing any argument. It's, they screwed up the draft. They made a bad trade. This player isn't any good before he even plays a game because someone on XM radio or on the internet said so. This team can't contend before they've even played a single game. And on and on, and on. You can't address every need at will, or just because you say they need to. You have to take it as it becomes available and presents itself.

I think he's the perfect fit into Lavy's system. He's obviously a dynamic scorer, he's the one who carried the play on any line he was placed on, he excelled when Washington played their up-tempo offensive style of play, he's responsible defensively and I've never seen someone with more accuracy on those long stretch passes.
- bradleyc4

As long as there is a clause in his contract that forces him to take lessons from Berube on how to properly throw a punch I'd be okay with Semin on a one year deal. I thought he played pretty well for Washington in the playoffs - even made a couple of nice defensive plays.

I would also like to see someone like Halpern added for the 4th line center role. The one thing you won't get with Semin is leadership, veteran experience, and the same sort of locker room presence Jagr gave us. A guy like Halpern would help replace some of that, and give us a great face-off guy as well.

Hartnell/Giroux/Semin
Briere/Schenn/Voracek
Simmonds/Couturier/Talbot
Fedotenko/Halpern/Read

That lineup looks pretty solid and is also very flexible/adaptable in case of injuries. Guys like Read, Talbot, and Fedotenko can move around and play up or down a line as needed, and we have guys like Sestito, Rinaldo, and Holmstrom we could fill in with on the 4th line if they have to move up.

for some reason its tough for me to get a read on B. Schenn

what player do yall see as a comparable for him once/if he develops fully?

- Crimsoninja

High end? Ryan Getzlaff. Maybe not as good of a playmaker. But that type of plaer.

Hits.

Good choice! But I think he has more offensive upside.

I think he's more skilled than Richards. Gilmour is a good comp.

If Sestito can control his emotions I truly believe he can be an absolute beast on the 4th line. The guy is like a freight train.

not a lot of guys score more than a ppg as a 16 year old in the whl. gotta imagine he could be an offensive force as he gets comfortable.

I hope so. And think you're right. But not enough to see from Schenn to tell.

But I'll take Dustin Brown.

Worst case, he's a Mike Ricci, an offensively gifted elite checking center.

Best case, you're talking about a top-line center who brings the build/physicality of a Backes, versatility of a Kesler, and the bulldog mentality of Mike Richards.

He doesn't strike me as a very bright player... he's got size, hands and snarl, but w/o a good head on his shoulders to run the show, he's not going to be able to stick around for long.
