Contracts have been inflating. Players with similar numbers are easily getting 4 mil+.
Its funny, fans here have been defending Gagner for weeks saying that he is underrated. Yet when it comes time to pay him, he suddenly isnt worth as much.
Makes no sense. - Leafs43
I am simply looking at Duchene's new term. 2YR $7M. Gagner vs Duchene...I think we all know who we would pick between the two regardless it's apples and oranges comparision. If Duchene got 2YR $10M, then that's the going price for a centreman. All depends on market value, with the salary cap going up, yes, teams breaking their banks is not a rare event.
In fact I wonder whether the contention is term: I'd say Gagner probably either wants to be locked up long term or be able to walk as a UFA in two years time. - Morris
EDM better not let him walk for free. He gets traded ASAP. |

Sell the farm for yandle.
Gags, 1st 2013 and a prospect not named klefbom +
An elite offensive, puck moving dman at a very reasonable 5.2 for only 3 more seasons would do wonders for this team. The money makes absolute sense and can easily work.
Said assets goin the other way are either average or unproven.
We get drastically better immediately, and long term.
Funny that anyone thinks staying away from a player of yandles caliber and contract is the prudent move.

Lame duck whitney, question mark petry, rookie schultz, smid, schultz and potter/sutton.
Be prepared for having one the worst defences in the league again, and thus in the running for the lottery...again.
Losing sam gagner as the main piece in a deal for an elite defender is an absolute no brainer
People have to stop thinkin picks are still the answer. The core is in place and now we have to build around that and move forward. Schultz was a great start, but is still completely unproven and a rookie. Even in 2 years the chances of him being keith yandle good are incredibly slim.
Even a 60pt (!!??) gagner isnt worth a true top pairing puck mover |

Your definition of selling the farm is very different than mine. One current prospect does not equal selling the farm. |

I'd do it, but like you said, it can't be Klefbom.
