Not a bad deal for Dubnyk, really. He better than average stats on a team not exactly known for their defensive prowess.
Good move, I think. - Ballsackian
Exactly! I'm glad some people can see it... I wonder what he would do on a defensive team! |

As bad as the Oilers are right now, they're clearly doing the right thing by not being aggressive. You look at where the talent is on our team, the prospects we have coming up in our system (which won't be expected to fill huge roles) and our cap-hits in the upcoming seasons, and it's pretty clear what management is doing... We're doing the right thing.
And no, you DON'T "sell the farm for a Yandle" unless you want to (frank) your team up in the future... As good as Yandle is, in the cap world, our farm is what will allow us to keep the bigger named players, and ultimately be a competitive team. You sell the farm, and you're (frank)ed... Simple as that. |

BINGO!!!!!!! Could not agree with you more... Weber and Yandle (I would like Yandle- and he should be cheaper) would be perfect in moving this team to a playoff contender but 3 or 4 better assets lost really (frank)s us... We are not ready to go fishing... teams do that when they only need 1 or 2 pieces... not 4-6... How much do you think Gags will get paid? |

Gagner? I'd say 3.5-3.75... Who knows though. How much are you thinking? |

Ouch...
Judging by what other fans on here say about him, he should be a 700k player. |

Well I think he is worth 3.5 but the inflated market really skews in his favor... we may see a lockout to straighten this stuff out IMO... but either way for now Gags is goin to get overpaid... |

He can have a two year 7 million dollar contract or a four year 12 million dollar contract imo. Both are fair. Ideally I'd take a three year deal at 9.5 million.
We have 1 player (Horcoff) signed past 2013-2014. We could re-sign Yakupov, Schultz, Hall, Eberle and the Nuge to 6.5 million each and still have 36 million dollars to build the rest of the team. Look at Hall and Ebs' first two years - is likely Yakupov and Schultz will produce enough to earn 6.5 million? I think we can afford to wrap up Gagner past two years. |

Oh, I know.
He is worth around 3. But with the market the way it is, he'll get closer to 4. |

True, in a couple years, we won't have any bad contracts at all and can lock up all the kids and still have more than enough to build around them, |

On one hand, David Jones just signed 16million over 4 years.
On the other hand, David Perron just signed 15.25 million over 4 years. Gagner lies in the middle for me (Perron>Gagner>Jones).
I'd say he gets 1 year, 3.5 million. It's a sweetheart deal to Gagner, but it keeps him an RFA, and allows them to re-sign Hall/Ebs and re-evaluate. |

In fact I wonder whether the contention is term: I'd say Gagner probably either wants to be locked up long term or be able to walk as a UFA in two years time. |
|
|
|
Saw an interesting article comparing Dubnyk's contract to Pavelec, Shneider, and Rask. Really when it comes down to it Dubnyk's contract is pretty fair and right down the middle between these guys.

I think you're right. I have a feeling he wants 4-5 years at least. |

I think his contract is fine, especially with the market the way it is.
He played on one of the worst defensive teams and still had decent numbers. Put him on a good defensive team and those numbers only get better. |
