you could say the same thing about the gm of every UFA that people are complaining we couldn't sign and didn't get traded by the deadline. My guess is he weighed the chances of getting him signed over the rest of the season vs what he was being offered for him and gambled and lost. A lot of gm's gambled this season. Things happen, but keep in mind people are crying over a 29 y/o career ahl player who couldn't crack the NHL until he got to the Isles and then was given top line minutes and even while playing on the second line still got first line powerplay duty playing next to Tavares.

How big a loss is this exactly? Late in the season I was thinking it would be a big loss for the Isles, but after doing some thinking about it all through the playoffs and the draft, I don't think so.

If he scores less than 40 points next season it'll prove me right. If he scores 60-70, it proves me wrong. Let's cry about it at that point.

I agree with your thinking here ..but this seems to be a patern that snow has of letting players walk or not making a deal .....yes for 20 yrs the cupboard was bare .. but in those 20 years there have been expansion franchises and other franchises in the same dire situation yet we still sit stagnent like the water in a bucket behind your garage ....All of this is just frustration the fams have over the non moves this team continues to make ...

Bash the guy all you want about being career AHL'er and so on ,but the guy produced when he finally got a legit shot in the NHL. Whether its a big loss or not is not really the issue. Not dealing him when his value was the highest its been and losing him for nothing was the big mistake. If they were in a playoff race then you can make the argument for not getting rid of him. The fact that they kept him at the deadline with no real chance at a playoff spot is bad no matter how much people will try to spin it. Also factor in how cheap the Isles are and that this would be PAP's last shot at a big contract at age 29 you knew they weren't going to resign him before July 1st. Not only did Snow drop the ball he picked it up and threw it away letting the runners advance into scoring position

the isles always take the easy cheap and dumb way out...look at the line of coaches we have had take nolan and milbury out of the equation and its a list of no namers....yet a team with no history like the wild have the ability to sign suter and parise ...( i know they are players and i was talking coach) we just seam to always do things the hard way .... the islanders have become a mickey mouse organization .. Staple reported the Islanders are done and happy going into the start of the season. So I am trying to think what exactly is different this year than last that makes Snow happy about our team. We lost Parenteau, Montoya and a few spare parts and we repalced them with Boyes and Carkner who is a 6th/7th defenseman with size.

How exactly can Snow be happy with this considering we were 28th in offense and 27th in Defense.

This is why this team sucks and will continue to suck. Snowang wants this team to lose so he can sell/move it and it is disgusting.

Relax a lot can change between now and the start of the season. I think what they really are doing is staying put with the team they have now till the labor dispute gets resolved. After the new CBA is in place I expect Garth will make a few moves to round out this team.

so instead of having it both ways you let the asset go for nothing...i didnt sleep in a holiday in last night but...that sounds crazy to me they should have moved him at the deadline believe me they new then they werent going to resign his ass
- cmimbri

They didn't know that they couldn't sign him between then and July 1st, 2012.

If anything it shows they thought he might actually want to stay and play with Tavares and Moulson.

You know the guys that turned him into an NHL player... he was a scrub before that.

If they would have traded him away... then you lose him and negotiating rights with him until July 1st.

If you think he going to walk onto another team and pull off the same kinda #'s without those guys... then you are crazy!!!

PS... I guess letting Parise, and Weber go instead of trading them was a really bad decision!!!

How about Carle, Wideman, Semin etc... they should have all been traded!!!

Staple reported this....

Why do you guys believe everything you read?

Do you really think he won't try and make a trade before the season starts.

This is really getting sad... I have never seen fans so negative. Even Maple Leaf fans aren't that bad. And they right now are in a worse situation...

were not on the same page because you dont know the definition of the word "prospect"

once we are on the same page with that meaning, youll understand why people say they have good PROSPECTS....XXX, help me out!!!!

- LetsGoIsles

Dude im sorry... its just so daunting a task.. you cant make people see what they cant. You cant make a negative person positive. In a couple seasons when these prospects have made their way to the big club & are contributing, the team is winning more then losing.. These peopl will be visiting their chiropractor weekly from patting themselves on the back about how they stood by the team through thick & thin. They will be talking about how they knew this prospect & that prospect were something special!!

I think the thing is here is that until they play in the NHL we really dont know what we got. Like said before half of the prospects usually end up doing nothing
- kasperrko

And neither do any other teams. That's the point. At this point they are assets. And not for nothing but 5 years ago this organization had nowhere near the assets they have now.

Who said anything about dumping 5 assets for a good player?? Another guy who likes to put words in others mouths You're right there isn't a lot out there but I'm sure there are trades to make. Other GM's make trades all the time. When is the last time the Isles made a trade where they got something back other then a draft pick or marginal player back?
- Vukota

Thank You Vukota. Who said Ryan would take 5 assets and if that is the price Garth can say no way. Garth should be able to improve this team by not trading the farm and if not he is not the right GM. Does Garth really think all these propects are going to work out and does he really think he has the room to play all of them? There is no reason at this point in the rebuild for Garth to have doubts about trading some of these prospects.

No one said he has doubts about trading some prospects.... but the price it would take to land Ryan is too steep for us to give up at this time.

Who said the price was too steep? Garth I'm afraid to trade Snow? If Garth or Steve Tambellini ever make an impact trade I know the world will end soon. Both guys should not be allowed to make another lottery pick until they get some stones to make a real trade.

Yes let's plan the parade because Lubomir was added for a 2nd. It's ok to rip Wang and Snow he is not going to move the team just because fans on Hockeybuzz are ripping him. Are you honestly happy with the offseason so far? If this is the team that starts the season are you happy?
