I think you guys have to shore up on D personally. I know you got Schenn, but it was tough watching the Flyers Pens series because you guys just skated all over each other. |

That is good enough size. I am not going to throw out names, cause I would have no clue. I think it would be a good fit as well... but we will see. Most likely a bunch of BS. - jsam7

Interesting theories. But that's a lot of speculating. So if SJ is after Nash, they have to clear out either Marleau or Thorton. Both #1 centers. Considering they still have Couture and Pavelski as centers, they can afford to do that. Now I understand Burke would be interested in taking a "salary dump" (not down playing them, just saying SJ's need of ridding the contract) in either of those guys. But no way does SJ give up Couture or Pav for Nash.
Just laying out the thought process here. But in the hiiiiighly unlikely and ever rare situation, this a situation where 3 teams could all help each other out. The price for Nash to Burke is out of worldly, but SJ doesn't have the high level prospects CBJ wants, and CBJ does not want salary back for Nash. So.
San Jose: Nash, Lombardi
Columbus: SJ 1st rounder, Tor 2nd, Kadri
Toronto: Thorton/Marleau
?
Or something of the like? Nothing seems to work in my mind anyway unless there's a team that will take on some salary, but teams generally won't do so giving up a lot of assets. Now, Burke has had a hard on for Clowe forever now, it would seem weird to me if he dealt with SJ and CLowe was not involved. |

Colburne, and Kulimin - jonathonpeddle
For Stats? you guys would love that trade It's actually pretty reasonable, but Kulemin's value is way too low to be traded right now, as well with Colborne. I think Burke wants to see what this kid can do with a healthy season as he was killing it prior to his injuries. |

Just saw a headline about the pens possibly being interested in Nash...I'm not too crazy about it, but the fit wrt skill is there. Curious, not whether it's a good idea or not, but more about what everybody thinks would have to go back the other way...my thoughts:
Morrow + Martin + Bennett + Tangradi + Strait + maybe a 1st??
I think Howson was initially (at least) looking for two top prospects + 2 current roster players + draft pick. Morrow + Bennett fill the prospect part, Martin + Tangradi + Strait would be current roster players and the draft pick.
Losing Martin is a bit crappy but if they feel good about Despres, then I suggest to sign guys like Hannan and Colioacovo. If we could also trade Kennedy for Setoguchi (picks or prospects to even things out):
Nash - Crosby - Setoguchi
Kunitz - Malkin - Neal
Kennedy - Sutter - Cooke
Glass - Vitale - Adams
Letang - Orpik
Niskanen - Hannan
Coliocovo - Despres
Bortuzzo/Engelland
Not too shabby...if it's possible...thoughts? |

I agree but I couldn't think of where from tho. and then things get too stretched out, and names like Connolly start coming to mind and then you know you've gone too far but anything from SJ would mean 1st, Thorton, + for Nash? Can't see that. Leafs, 2nd, Kadri, Lombardi, + to take on 7mil... hmmm actually Leafs could send Mac to them as well. |

I think Toronto would be giving up two high-end prospects, plus a roster player for either one of those two. Maybe a conditional pick as well

Yeah dude that's nothing close to what Howson is asking. He wanted Seguin, Hamilton, and a pick from the Bs, Coutore, prospect, pick from the sharks etc.

I started thinking that, but the more rumors that go around, and nobody wants to give CLB that and the more Howson waits the less I think he'll get as teams find other ways to fill out their rosters. At some point he's going to have to take the best offer his way I think...anyway, its just a curiosity as unless the pens can do something like the above deal I wouldn't consider it...even then I'm not sure how much I like it....just for conversation sake |
