He's relying on some team eventually getting desperate enough to bite. There are no forwards left on the market at Nash's level, so some team that wants to go deep this year, that sees other teams in it's division/conference getting better, might eventually feel that they need to make that move.

The price will likely be lower, but he's got no reason to deal him from now, and the market isn't going away. He's in no hurry to move him, the team's poop either way, so he's better off waiting for a team to up it's offer to what he wants, than lowering it down to what they want.

It's true that he didn't handle the situation well, but he's not dumb for asking the sky for his franchise player.

That could happen. But my feeling is that his prices thus far are going to leave a bad taste in a lot of GM's mouths and he will end up getting a lesser value.

Calling him dumb is a collection of the way he has handled the situation and his actions thus far.
