Well, I had no idea he didn't get along with Schenn, so much for trying to steal him...I'll stick with Gunner...

If a team signs a RFA to an offer sheet, and his 2011-12 team doesn’t match, they are awarded draft pick compensation depending on the amount they sign for. RFAs that have filed for salary arbitration can’t be signed to offer sheets.

$1,110,249 or below None
Over $1,110,249 to $1,682,194 3rd round pick.
Over $1,682,194 to $3,364,391 2nd round pick.
Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585 1st and 3rd round pick.
Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick.
Over $6,728,781 to $8,410,976 2 1st round picks, 1 2nd and 3rd round pick.
Over $8,410,976 4 1st round picks.

What about trading Phaneuf for Getzlaf and then sending an offersheet to Weber at 8 year 7.5m/per contract.. Then you have two candidates for your 'C' on the team

Dion can't seem to play at that level for more than 30 games a year. Same when he came back from his knee injury and he played great but had stunk it up before.
- AdamFrench

Goaltending and team defense would do wonders for everyone's game.

I'm not saying Dion's up there with Chara, Weber, etc., but those guys are playing on great teams, with great team defense, elite goaltending, etc. etc. And while they certainly are a part of their team makeup, it's a mutually-beneficial relationship.

That's been debunked; don't recall where, but somebody did a write-up.

I don't consider him elite either, but there's very few I do. Fact remains that if we move Dion, we have a big hole on defense that's not going to be filled by Gardiner or Rielly any time soon. Plus there's no way Burke moves Dion for Getzlaf, not when he just moved Schenn who was, at one point, supposed to be the "future captain", which it was rumoured to be in part because he didn't get along with Dion.

I think we can safely say that Dion is not Captain material

For some bizarre reason, I'm going to be optimistic here.

People mock Wilson for saying that Dion was the best player in the league, but for the first 20 games or so, that was actually debatable. The guy was playing at an extremely high level.

And then, like everything else, it came back to earth.

But at least we know the guy can do that. It is possible.

Probable? Hmmmmm......

But it is possible.

- Atomic Wedgie

This is true, and getting to the root of that was something Wilson was unable to do.

Could be a focus thing, could also be exhaustion/conditioning (they continue to harp on that; I think they talked about the cliff-dive our team did in the context of training).

Yeah, I really regret letting him get away.

I mean, sure he was 6-13-2 last year, with .890 sv% and 3.29 GAA, but it's easy to overlook that when you consider the guy has an awesome nickname.

That nickname is enough to make him a good goalie.

Bizarre theory I've just come up with, but I'm putting it out there, so stay with me:

Weber would probably be reluctant to sign an offer sheet.

If he truly wants out of Nashville (and I have no idea if this is true or not, I'm just playing along with the internet chatter), then signing an offer sheet is a dangerous proposition. I'm assuming any offer sheet would be a long term deal, and Nashville would simply match it, "condemning" him to playing in Nashville for a long time.

Nashville would match that..it would have to be in the 4 1st round picks range to make them think about it

Perhaps, but can I ask why you feel that way? Dressing room? Have no idea what goes on in there; maybe 24/7 will shed some light on that. Lots of jokes about controlling the iPod, but other than that, no idea.

Media? Yup, awkward pauses. Certainly needs help there.

Results? Team has sucked since he's been there; team also sucked before he was there. Not sure how much can be blamed on him.

yeahhhh ummm Sundin is better than Getzlaf. And we never really had a #1 behind him since.. McCabe? That sure worked out well. And I don't know about you but the last #1 defensemen that was available just went for 98 million... What's easier to fill exactly?
- Boosinicka

What does Sundin have to do with any of this???.......Just because someone is #1 on the Leafs D doesn't make them a true #1......and Sutter was a #2 by the way..........Phaneuf is replaceable!!!

We arent talking about trading Chara or Webber for Getz..........its Friken Dion Phaneuf.....a Quality defenseman but not a Stud.......Idealy if we could trade for Getz with out including Dion, Lets do it...........but i ask you this...who would you rather have.........Phaneuf or Gardiner??

that's why instead of the offersheet route (but being used as a 'treath') Leafs would be looking to trade for Weber's rights..

Kulemin + Rielly + Kadri + Ashton for Weber

I don't know about that. He's an idiot, i agree. But i think he plays with the heart of a captain. The Ducks didn't do too well this year with Getzlaf as their captain
