@faceofgravy Fact is, other than MacArthur nobody else (even Kulemin) showed they can be a 2nd liner this year. That's why Leafs are hunting

@TheFourthPeriod they absolutely are not hunting for wingers. Lupul played great this year, Mac's numbers are on par for top6. Kadri next up
Guy thinks first of all, JVR is going to stick as center, and if he does, we're trading for more wingers. - gravyface
If you read further he reiterated for his reasoning.

both Gardiner and Riley have the potential to be number one defensemen.
So the way I look at it, we give up our current 1D for a 1C.......... we have potentially a 1D in the system whereas we have no 1C in the system - faceto27
This isn't a bad thought...Briere, Voracek, and a first for Dion and Gunner...Or Briere for Gunner... |
|

Agreed, too much. But now we're in the market for a #1 defenseman because nobody else on the Leafs are capable of eating Dion's minutes. And that #1 defenseman is going to cost us another pile of prospects and roster players, so we've basically stripmined our team to address a #1 center, exactly what Burke said he wouldn't do (and exactly what alot of teams are not going to do for people like Nash or Ryan). - gravyface
Phaneuf is not a #1 Defenseman.. because he is bad at defending. |

The first proposal leaves us rather thin at the moment on Defense. I'd go for the second offer though.
Deal?? |

Phaneuf while plays #1 D is not really a game changer now is he....Sure we all get dic tingles when he lays the smack down on an open ice hit, but.......his shot rarely hits the net....he constanly puts himself out of position going for the big hit which results in 2 on 1's the other way, and i would not consider him Elite.
I would include Dion in such a trade if we could lock up Getz long term |

It's not so much that -- I think there's a 50/50 chance he succeeds at center -- it's the "looking to acquire a 2nd line winger" when we have MacArthur, Kadri, Frattin, and to a lesser extent Connolly and Lombardi (who would move up if JVR's at center) on our active roster. |

Do you think any of these ramblings about how players on the Leafs preform have any direct connection to the sh*tty coaching and systems in place? Whenever they leave they become superstars... |

Beauch sure found his game again when he went back to Anaheim. What a crazy coincidence eh? |

That's been debunked; don't recall where, but somebody did a write-up.
I don't consider him elite either, but there's very few I do. Fact remains that if we move Dion, we have a big hole on defense that's not going to be filled by Gardiner or Rielly any time soon. Plus there's no way Burke moves Dion for Getzlaf, not when he just moved Schenn who was, at one point, supposed to be the "future captain", which it was rumoured to be in part because he didn't get along with Dion.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love trolling.
But I have to draw the line somewhere.
Just who exactly has left the Leafs and become a superstar?
Pony?
Antropov?
Tlusty?
Coca-Cola?
Steen?
Kaberle?
Versteeg?
Finger? |

Theres a reason Calgary traded him for a bag of sweaty nutsaks.....The only players we really regret trading away in the last few years would be.........Steen,white,and of course...Tukka Rask....... |
