Ok, for starters, Getzlaf is a UFA next year: there's a very real chance that he doesn't want to sign long-term and wants to test UFA, especially after seeing the mad payout that Parise/Suter got. We may be in on that, might not, also depends on CBA and how that looks as far as restrictions on term. He may also want to do the bromance thing with Perry too.
Secondly, trading our captain and leaving a big hole in minutes/leadership on the blueline isn't the answer, especially when goaltending is (and has been for years) our major concern.
Bottom line, giving up that many assets for a guy who's very likely to go UFA in a year doesn't make sense, especially since #1 center isn't our primary concern.
Deal I like would be based around Lupul for Stastny, MacArthur for Halak. Two guys that fit into our age group and addresses both team's needs/surpluses. - gravyface
The Bolded parts made me
Oh and MacArthur for Halak also made me
MacArthur is not a Hitchcock type player and Halak is definetly worth more than MacArthur. |

very weird social club going on there....nothing too hurtful, just jabbing at each other, but it goes on on on and some jabs technically against COC so that's where your line in the sand comes in |

Sure there`s a risk at trading for a guy who is going to be a UFA. If they did Im sure B.B. would sniff out the possability of signing him long term, Much like he did with Phil. Also Burke has done a great job at restocking the cupboards and including a couple of prospects in a deal isn't going to break the organization. You have to give to get..........and thanks for your opinion it is alot better than a head shake..........

St L would be crazy to trade Halak after trading Bishop....but Halak in Leaf blue would be nice.... - JIMI-JAMES
Right, forgot Scrivens in that proposal. I think I had something like MacArthur, Scrivens, 2nd. |

If Leafs are offered the chance to trade for Getzlaf, they will have no doubt to include Phaneuf (if he would be the 'center part' of the trade). Phaneuf has proven to not be the leader Leafs are looking for, apart from him not being 'the best D-man in the league (what kind of comment was that from Wilson last year?? After this, Phaneuf's play really took a turn for the worse!).
Leafs need to add a #1C now, cannot afford to wait another year or two..
Phaneuf is more easy to replace - quite a few options available to fill out the D-corpse.. |

They will not get nearly as much if they wait till the tradeline. At the tradeline, he becomes a rental. Trade him now, the other team can sign him long term
Has Getz been fitted for his Leaf Jersey yet?? - faceto27
Well some guys have gotten pretty big returns at the deadline but it's a fair comment. I'm still not convinced they'll trade him. All the talk seems to be around Bobby Ryan as being the most likely to be shipped out, I doubt they send him and Getzlaf. People are acting like there is no chance that Getzlaf re-signs with them but maybe they are already having talks about an extension and they are going really well and are confident he'll stay with them. First line centers are hard to come by, if they can keep him they will keep him. If he makes it clear he won't stay or wants to test free agency then they should move him. We have no idea what the status is on that stuff. |

If only you dedicated more time reading than clicking lol emoticons you would have saw that I wrote, "Deal I like would be based around...".
MacArthur's advanced stats, defensively, are pretty good; there's a reason why he played on our shutdown line with Grabs that faced our opponent's top lines all year long. He's also not afraid to get in the corners and forecheck, despite not being huge. - gravyface Agreed...and he was hand picked by Dion as well....and he's a bargain for what we get out of him |

Freudian slip?
Goaltending has plagued this team since Belfour days and should be the priority. And giving up the farm for a pending UFA doesn't make sense to me.
Plus, the Ducks (much like what they're asking for with Bobby Ryan) want a bluechip prospect, which means they'd definitely want Gardiner/Rielly in return, much the same way that CBJ wants similar for Nash. Despite having an off-year, Getzlaf would command a hefty price and I don't think Phaneuf would do it. |
