Definitely. Only question is who is even available? People throw around names like Stastny and Getzlaf and Thornton/Marleau but what if they aren't available? Teams aren't lining up to trade any centres let alone guys who could play on the first line. Unless it's a situation like J. Staal where he's a pending free agent and you're pretty sure (hell, he could have told them outright) that he isn't going to sign there and your hand is forced or if you have a bad Cap situation and your hand is forced.

My bet is we make an "upgrade" at centre but it's not a star player. I know we won't get Ribeiro because he just got traded but I think it'll be a guy more of that range than a guy like Getzlaf. That's still an improvement, definitely, but it's not like a massive overhaul.

I believe ANH will start a Rebuild of Sorts. Ryan will be traded and Getz is a UFA after this season. The Sutter`s and Parise`s of the world walk away and sign with different teams, Much Like Mats did. You get NOTHING in return. ANH will need to move him to restock the Cupboards. Trading Gardiner and losing Shultz hurt. They will be looking for a Center, Top 4 D-man, Prospect and a High Pick in return...... Burke will Fleece them once again!

The Sutter`s and Parise`s of the world walk away and sign with different teams, Much Like Mats did. You get NOTHING in return. ANH will need to move him to restock the Cupboards. Trading Gardiner and losing Shultz hurt. They will be looking for a Center, Top 4 D-man, Prospect and a High Pick in return...... Burke will Fleece them once again!

Well.. I don't think Leafs will trade for Getzlaf now, but prefer to wait and try to sign him next year..

As I said before, I believe Burke will go after Dubinsky, so this year first 2 lines will look like this:

Lupul - Dubinsky - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Kulemin

then, next year (hope to sign Getzlaf, Lupul possibly gone)

JVR - Getzlaf - Kessel
Dubinsky - Grabovski - Kulemin

It's true they might trade Getzlaf out of fear of not being able to re-sign him, or Perry for that matter, but it's far from guaranteed or even likely at this point. Plus, if they are going to do that it might not be until trade deadline. I assume they'll be out of the playoffs at that point but they may not feel the same way.

They will not get nearly as much if they wait till the tradeline. At the tradeline, he becomes a rental. Trade him now, the other team can sign him long term

Ok, for starters, Getzlaf is a UFA next year: there's a very real chance that he doesn't want to sign long-term and wants to test UFA, especially after seeing the mad payout that Parise/Suter got. We may be in on that, might not, also depends on CBA and how that looks as far as restrictions on term. He may also want to do the bromance thing with Perry too.

Secondly, trading our captain and leaving a big hole in minutes/leadership on the blueline isn't the answer, especially when goaltending is (and has been for years) our major concern.

Bottom line, giving up that many assets for a guy who's very likely to go UFA in a year doesn't make sense, especially since #1 center isn't our primary concern.

Deal I like would be based around Lupul for Stastny, MacArthur for Halak. Two guys that fit into our age group and addresses both team's needs/surpluses.
