They will always have career years every year of course, because they are leafs right? - eihcnerf
Stastny is basically putting up as much points a Bozak, at 6.6 million, enough said. We would be doing the Avs a favor by taking him off of their books, as he would be considered a huge gamble for the Leafs |

Difference? Burke has publicly stated this is the guy he believes will lead his team for years and wants to build around and named him captain early. Schenn was a largely touted player who has always been on the trade block since almost day one. - noename09
No Schenn was someone everyone wanted traded in his second and fourth year. But when he was great in his rookie season and third season, he was "the most untouchable player ever". It's the same stupidity thats going on with Kulemin now, but Schenn was to a much higher degree. I expect fans to want Gardiner gone if he experiences the sophomore slump. |

Clearly that decision alone proves Burke has been going off boil of late.
Some of his player ratings are just so far off.
Phaneuf has improved.. last season was a step forward.. but having a rude, selfish player, who doesn't defend well as the building block to the rest is a mistake.
Not saying that Phaneuf can't improve.. I think he can if you slot him with the right partner.. but as the center of the universe.. it is a failure..

Stajan was a 55 point player. Hagman was a 20 goal scorer. White is a top four defender. But surely, Bozak and MacArthur are not scrubs.
Stastny will not be a 3rd line center with the Avalanche. At worst, he plays behind Duchene on the 2nd line. - Two_For_Truth
Leafs also got Aulie in that deal.
stastny has declined much like Dion when we got him cheap. People are over rating Stastny.

So why acquire Stastny then? If Bozak is scoring as many points, at a fraction of the cost, why bother? |

Sure...many fans wanted him gone and many fans pinned as an untoucheable early on. But there were also a number of fans who saw and pinned him as a 2nd/3rd line shut down guy who might not be overly hard to replace.
Not to sound like im taking away from Schenn, cause Ive always enjoyed watching him hit people...but there were just as many crazy in love fans for Schenn as there were "hes not that great" fans. |

I agree with you.. just also agreed on all the demerits you mentioned about him.. at the high cost. - DoctorNHL
oh hell ya, and he's not the ideal for the Leafs, which is why a deal of
To Leafs: Stastny
To Avs: Bozak, MacArthur, Franson
should be reasonable, or at least a good starting point. If you want to add a 2nd or somebody like D'Amigo or Holzer, or Finn, or swap Kulemin/Gunnarson for MacArthur/Franson, fine.

For me, I thought Phaneuf was one of the Leafs worst defensemen last year. |

Trading Schenn (+) could have brought the Leafs Tavares/Duchene..

That's the point, that is why he'd come at a discount. It would be a gamble on Torontos part, but perhaps a change of scenery, and being placed in between Kessel and Lupul will help him regain his form. |

I was more going with Bozak and Mac combined provide more offense that Stastny with $2M savings.

Avs have players better than him to fill his roll, Leafs don't. - Big_Lightnin
This makes all more perfect sense to give him to the leafs for scrubs. |

Two minutes ago, you said the Avalanche couldn't afford Stastny.
Bozak, MacArthur and Franson (at 1.25 million) add up to 6 million dollars.
The lengths they would go to save 600K. |

wow...
they can't afford to pay 1 player that amount of money for that little production. Spreading that salary over 3 players, and getting far more production (adding Frason's offense takes them well over 100pts) is saving a ton of money.

So Stastny could reclaim his 70-80 point performances in Toronto but not in Colorado, so, that's why the Avalanche should get rid of him? To acquire Bozak and save chump change.
Interesting. |

Yes, Stastny is not elite. And if this is the ACE in the hole Burke has. I'm dumbfounded. It most likely will be. And all the Leaf fans who only watch Leaf game will rejoice thinking we have a 100 point player. When his numbers are really not impressive at all considering how high he is regarded. |
