the leafs dont participate in much these days.
trade deadline? nope
playoffs? nope
free agency? nope
and the list will continue.... better off trading for the norfolk admirals, atleast you could say you're putting a winning product on the ice.

No.
Burke is still in the main boardroom at Newport Sports, as 29 other GMs come in and make pitches for why the Leafs should trade Komisarek to them.
This is a really big decision, so Burke may not decide for a few days. - Atomic Wedgie
Trade complicated by the fact that he wants to respect the fact that Komi, Connolly and Lombardi all want to play together. Takes a bit longer to pull those deals off

I feel the Leafs are at a disadvantage because of BB's unwillingness to give players bullpoop contracts - jimdavis
I'm glad he doesn't.
I can't wait for te new CBA. Hoping they make a ruling that any of those crap contracts will be fully honored, but that any player who retires before the deal is up, the money stays on the teams cap hit.
Would be a thing of beauty...Luongo retires with those 3-4 years left but yet the 5.5 cap hit is still there.
Gotta punish the slimy GM's who cheated the system.

Who is going to fight for the Cap hits to stay? The Owners/GMs sign the players to the deals... now they are going to fight themselves to keep the cap hits they are trying to avoid?

the owners/GM's who don't have those deals.
I think the more likely scenario is max term, and current contracts get rolled back, or cut off, at that term (from next year, so if the max is 5 yrs, and a contract is in yr 3 - Luongo - they still get 5 more yrs, then void)
that would be the least painful all around and still avoid future ones. but would (frank) Minnie right in the ass for cap hit both would be over $10M hit
It's kind of funny to think that when most of these deals are signed, (ex. 13 years), the player will remain with the team, while the GM, coach, pretty much everyone else in the organization, will change multiple times
