This isnt a good move for the Leafs. Stastny isnt really the kind of guy they should be moving assets for. Hold off for something better.

The Avs will need a 3rd line center... and Bozak's 3rd line center who can also play up to 2nd if needed.

MAc's been nothing but durable and pretty consistent with Leafs.

Gunnar's got less games in the league but I'd say you know what you're getting more. Franson's been slow developing. Gunnar hada few more years pro in Sweden

And either Gunnar or Franson would step right into Avs top 4.

If this isn't enough, it doesn't need much more. Kulemin instead of MacArthuer? does he have more value? some would say yes, some would say no.

Stastny's not going to get the farm in return. If they trade him at all, it's because they want to move the salary.

I didnt say he would cost the farm, just more than Bozak or one of Gunnar/Franson. And it still leaves a hole in their lineup by trading one of their top centers, that isn't replaced by Bozak. I am not suggesting that the leafs dont have the parts to get it done, well, because they do, i am just suggesting that they will not make that move until they have, no matter how they get it, or whether they actually already have it, a reasonable replacement seen as by them, and not the leafs, or leaf fans.

Why are you not understanding it, it's quite simple. The Avalanche would move Stastny because they do not need 3 top 2 centerman, kind of what happened in Pittsburgh...

They would be acquiring, a centerman to play behind Duchesne, and Oreilly on the depth chart, and 2 top 6 wingers. Do you get it? They do not need a top centerman back in a trade, make sense yet?

The point is, they are still not getting back a proper, and i do mean beneficial to them, not the leafs, replacement for the guys they are giving up.

in Bozak and Mac they're getting approx 35G and 70-90 pts for $4.2M.

Why would the Avalanche part with depth at center after watching the Kings win a Cup with Kopitar, Richards and Stoll up the middle?

O'Reilly had a good year last year but he's still young and he's still geared to be a more defensive center. Stastny has underachieved in recent years but he has shown 70+ point ability in the past. That's something O'Reilly may never be able to do. Add to the fact that Duchene, albeit good, is still relatively very young, the Avalanche stand to benefit very little by trading away Stastny for spare parts.

The are already playing O'REilly, Stastny, and Duchene essentially the same amount of minuts 5 on 5 and on PP.

O'Reilly and Duchene take larger roles, allowing them to replace Stastny's big $$ with cheaper options who fill lesser rolls.
