They'll love him because he plays physical, Grossman makes mistakes too but that gets overlooked...

I been reading that debate about Semin and Ryan and I have to side with you OB27. Unless Anaheim wants to give up Ryan for picks and a prospect I'm not interested in paying that riddiculous ransom that has been suggested. Semin is a FA try him for 3 years otherwise if that's too short of a term screw it. I'd rather wait three years find out what the kids can be, and when Ryan's contract is up go after him then, if we even need to.

Schenn and Jake are a couple of really good young players that have the potential to develop into point producers similar to what Ryan is putting out. Hell Jake came a point shy of 50 this year and correct me if I'm wrong but he bounced between the third and second line. Put him on a line with G for a full year and I think his points will increase.

Same thing with Schenn. I really think he's gonna be a legitimate 30 goal a year guy. If so trading assets for one makes no sense. It won't be the end of the world to find out for at least a year what those two can do.

Anaheim gave up 2 very good but not top prospects, a 1st and 2nd round pick, and a CONDITIONAL pick that turned into 1st round pick.

We gave up 2 solid but not top former 1st rounders in Lupul and Sbisa, 2 1st rounds and a 3rd.

That was a bigger package than Edmonton gave up and probably equal to Anaheim's for a much older pronger with only 1 year left on contract.

Vast overpayment in my mind.

Mmmm, not sure I agree.

Both Lupul and Smid were top-10 picks in their draft years... Lupul was slated to become a top-line winger, Smid a shutdown 1st-pairing defender. That conditional 1st turned out to be a boon for the Oilers, turning into Jordan Eberle. The other first was dealt to move up in the draft to take Riley Nash, who looks like a bust but was highly regarded. Anaheim dealt that 2nd-rounder and the Islanders used it to pick Travis Hamonic, a current top-4 D.

Both were massive payments of similar scale... the only true distinction is that ANA won a Cup w/ Pronger and the Flyers came up a game and a goal short.

I don't have the stats for 3 years ago, but he played with Getzlaf and Perry more in '10-11 than he did in '11-12.

In a classy move the Tampa Bay Lightning drafted Carle anyway and he will go into the record books as the 203rd player selected in the 7th Round, even though he will most likely never play hockey again.

Not too many players in Philly get a lifetime pass and are revered. Even Mike Schmidt wasn't 100% loved.

Qualifier required: unless you're a 4th-line guy like Rinaldo, Carcillo, Eager, Shelley etc who get dismissed as plugs.

Philly's going to love Luke. He gets turned from time to time, but he absolutely destroys people with regularity. I'd also hesitate to buy in to all the Toronto hate... Leafs nation is notorious for either talking a guy up beyond all recognition, or snowballing a few mistakes into fundamental player faults (sound familiar?) -- it's almost always the latter when a guy gets traded. Remember how they treated Sundin at the end? Disgraceful.

loved langkow when he was here. his production scoring-wise has dropped off precipitously the last few years but, he's still a good player. he has never been a good faceoff guy and i'm not sure he'd have any interest in playing the wing. if so, i got no beef, but would be more interested in mueller as top-9 wing and halpern as 4c. greater potential reward there with mueller, but langkow can certainly kill penalties...

btw, it's higher than Bobby Ryan's.
