I don't understand why we speculate that Homer HAS to do something.

Is Homer a spaz? And impulse shopper? You're telling me JUST because he didn't get one of the top 2 free agents, he just HAS to go out and trade the whole team away just to "make a splash"??

The man is a GM in the NHL. He knows what he's doing, and he's good at it. I have full confidence Homer isn't going to trade just to "make noise". Hell- we say it to people that propose propsterous trades on here.... "What's the point of that proposal?? You're just tradong for the sake of trading..."

If us couch GMs wouldn't do it, I have full confidence the real one won't either.

In Homer I trust.

I cut Homer some slack with the Pronger deal, but he lost some street cred with me on the Bryz deal. I hope he (and Ed) stays patient this year and doesn't blow up what he just went out and got the past year or so.

god damn you...

Corsi On Ice Shot Differential: Semin 5.21, Ryan 1.31
On Ice Save %: Semin 0.917, Ryan 0.910
GA On Ice per 60: Semin 2.46, Ryan 2.48

Signficantly better, eh?

And let's see those On-ice goals for please...

Eskin is credible when it comes to injuries. I don't recall much vouching for his trade talk.

Personally, I think Eskin is ignorant beyong comprehension.

Not a tweet - reported on whatever news (NBC?) with Sir Charles this past Sunday night.

So I am somewhat kidding that this is legit, simply b/c it is reported by Ape.

Yea, I think you're going to have give a lot more than that, hence my proposal.

I'm with Brad, we need another super talented but supremely maligned Russian sniper on the team

I still miss Nick Z.

I'm going with Bryz.

I should have put a disclaimer on that post. The goalie(s) are an automatic.

I'll say it differently. We would be idiots not to give up Read, Gus and a 1st for Ryan.

1) Because a bold GM will always act like a bold GM. It's like Favre always being a gunslinger.

2) Because on paper the Flyers have taken a small step back.

3) Because another team in the division (likely Rangers) will make a big splash (Nash).

4) Because Snider wants one more championship before he joins Pelle, Ashbee, Tertyshny et al. on the Flyers North (very far North)

The other two metrics, he's significantly better.

GF on ice per 60:

Ryan: 2.63
Semin: 3.02

Anything else?

At that point, our off-season would consist of:

Losing: JVR, Jagr, Read, Carle, Gus
Gaining: Ryan, Schenn

That still leaves us down 2 forwards and down 1 defenseman. Idiots or not, the team would not necessarily be better after that move. Look at the combined salary of Read+Gus as opposed to Ryan, and we're still down 3 players with less cap space to work with. Ryan would be great to have, but don't underestimate the cap hit of Read and the potential he still has to show, only playing 1 year in the NHL.

I want Couts and Talbot in the top 9 so I'm down with losing a couple of forwards. Still need to sign a few bottom 6 guys though.

So with Carle gone have we figured out who the new whipping boy will be for next season yet?

P.S. I'm not back reading today so the first person to chime in with a "Laught" gets a kick in the nuts.

- rockychocbill

The new whipping boy will be 27 year old defenseman Luke Schenn.

The only problem with this is that he is only 22. People will forget or ignore that fact numerous times every time he turns over a puck (which he did more often than the turnover machine who just went to Tampa) or doesn't run a guy through the boards 20 times a game.

It will make the Carle bashing look like a Sunday stroll down Kelly Drive.

My money is on Briere, although I won't be one of the raggers.

Running out of scapegoats. We're close to the perfect team now.

I am already furious with his play and I haven't even seen him yet this season.
