Matt Carle is a 40-point/year defenseman, while "Reggie" has hit 29 points ONCE.

He may be able to skate up and down the ice with the puck, but that doesn't mean he knows what to do with it.

STOP OVERVALUING HIS TRADE VALUE, GARTH!!!

I'm not sticking up for Garth because his reasoning for Sekera having value was terrible, but I think he does probably have more value than most of us think. He's still relatively young, is a pretty decent cap number for a #3ish D-man, and he was sick in his most recent action at WCs. Not saying he is worth a Statsny or something, but he's not exactly worth only a bag of pucks either.

If there is one D-man (besides Weber) that right now his respective team could get a boat load for it has to be Alex Edler. He is in the last year of his contact with VanCity. As much as I wouldn't want to see him go, it might be what needs to be done. You cannot have 30million in d-men every year.

Agreed they need to thin that out ,the market this year for defense is poor they should look to off load Ballard

Well put-
DR fleeced DAL and if he moves Sekera, we'll get a solid return.

Stastny is a PoS.
He's a $6M+ version of the problem we just got rid of-

I think the Sabres should keep Sekera and trade Leopold.

disagree

If we are to make a run in the next year or two, I would rather have leopold on the ice in a game 7

just because he is soon to be a UFA, that does not mean the sabres won't resign him

which D man would you rather have for the next 3 years, that should be the question

Deadmarsh was one of my favorites when I was younger.

Yeah me too. I would always find a way to add him to the Sabres in the EA NHL games.

He would have been in the hall of fame if it was not for concussions

When did Darcy fleece Dallas? When he gave up the guy who has led his team in points in 3 of the last 5 seasons (and had the highest pp/g average in a 4th of the 5 seasons) for someone eminently less talented? He really took them to the cleaners there.

Yeah it is too bad. So many careers cut short due to concussions. Who knows how much more LaFontaine, Lindros, Deadmarsh and others could have achieved.

speaking of Finger.. what do you think the chances of "the monster" having a great statistical year next season are.. Detriots system really favors goalies but without lidstrom i wonder if they suffer a bit on that. I really don't think he was a bad goalie he was just thrown into being the #1 in a terrible situation where he never had a chance

Agreed. There was no fleecing there at all. I love the trade and I think it was a great move, but Dallas is getting a good player back. If we base the trade on point production, the Sabres fans won't be happy this time next year. I don't base it on that, so I'll be fine.

As for Stastny, no way the Avs gets two 1st round draft picks back in a trade. Over the past two seasons he's averaged only 55pts, and you have to imagine that Duchene and O'Reilly are being seen as the #1 and #2 centers of the future.

But the Avs fans are right, they have no need for a defenseman in any trade. Unless the Sabres make a trade for a scoring winger, I don't see them giving up any of the top 4 wingers or Ott. Seems like any trade to Colorado would need to include one or more of Leino (who no one wants), Gerbe, Adam, Tropp, Armia, Flynn and picks.
