How exactly did we start arguing about vanek and Edmonton? But I still think if the sabres had those 4 first round picks, they would be much better than now, hell they would ave had 3 first round picks in 2008
- MattDuchene9

I could recount it, but it's boring to do so.

I wanted them to take the picks, when it comes down to it (now THAT would be some back reading) but I'm at peace with it. Just the argument that "look what you could have had" doesn't really play out for the reasons cited.

And like (was it Fotes?) said, that topic is about as worn here as (whoops) it gets.

As we all know, the Stastny sweepstakes have begun; a trade just isn't a trade without 2 firsts and a plethora of young prospects
- Conquest

The way they're talking right now, it might actually be easier to get Rick Nash out of Columbus, than get Paul Stastny out of Colorado.

...not exactly 1st overall pedigree either.
- twistedwrister9

No but he is top pairing pedigree and that is working out for us nicely right now. Looks pretty even that Stewy declined last season and we got Siemens out of the trade as well, could offset that losing Shattenkirk portion of the deal. So far its all pretty balanced

Doesn't make him a bust, yeah he didn't live up to expectations but there was many many many much bigger busts than Johnson, he's still our number one d man
- MattDuchene9

Yes, it does. Compare other recent first round picks. Daigle has over 300 NHL points. You'd still call him a bust though.

Take off the rose-colored glasses.

It was me...

I personally think it's kind of stupid to argue it. We'll never know what could have been either way.

Gotta love a troll whose team just gave a new contact to the biggest #1 overall bust since DiPietro/Stefan.

- TextingSources24/7

What? Maybe not the best 1st overall pick but that's not our problem that St.Louis picked him 1st. If you watch him play he's clearly not a bust, the kid is 24 and has grown considerably since coming over.

Difficult minutes for the Avalanche? I don't follow. That franchise is rather irrelevant now that Sakic, Forsberg, Roy are gone.

Landeskog is nasty though.

- TextingSources24/7

my only point is that shattenkirk plays other teams' 3rd and 4th lines and starts most of his shifts in the o zone. easy to look good that way.

Don't see where we are demanding a huge price for him. Just that Sekera is not a fit at all.

I'm sure you think Chris Phillips was worthy of a 1st overall pick also (granted it was a weak draft)?

ARE YOU SERIOUS!? You can't even be serious saying that, we have so many young players, 3 great centers and now we finally start to add wingers like parenteau, we have 2 fairly good goalies and a decent core of defenseman, I'm not saying we're as good as we used to but saying its an irrelevant franchise Proves you don't follow much hockey

Yea we will see....I thought at first you guys got torched in that deal. But I have a gut feeling Stewart isn't long for St. Louis. What's his deal, he's very skilled some of his backhand roof jobs are things of beauty. Lazy?

And you'd be right if we're talking on-ice performance. TV ratings say otherwise. Colorado can't come close to selling out their building anymore. The fans were spoiled early on, plain and simple.

I'm not going to lie, I hate the Parenteau signing for you. I like the Avs and I hope you prove me wrong though.

Umm... we've won the division since Briere and Drury... guess that's irrelevant.

Honestly, I'd back off the "irrelevant" argument. It's not a winner.

Just my $.02.

Sabres have never had a combination of a Sakic, Forsberg and Roy playing on the team at one time either.

We had a Roy in Hasek and he took us to the SCF but our best forwards at that time were Satan and Peca

Party Boy apparently. Just young and immature approach to the game. Story floating around before he got traded was he went to Vegas during the allstar break and just got destroyed, Management got tired of him and shipped him off.

Nah, Colorado is irrelevant for the time being. They haven't been worth talking about since Brunette's OT winner in 03. Fans aren't coming to games anymore. I hope the market is rejuvenated. I'm just speaking the truth.

Can be lazy and seems to feel sorry for himself when things don't go his way. Just needs to mature like most young players.
