I have entertained thoughts at trading him just to see how other teams value Stastny and what we could get for him, but end of the day I dont want to see him go and the vast majority of Avs Fans dont want to see him leave either.
Always fun to see what kind of fair and interesting trades you can get when its not some yahoo just trading junk in one sided trades. - DDM-Coga
Sure, and that's fine. Value on the roster starts with Stafford, since you don't need Defensemen wingers are up next. Technically we're much more full at LW but we have some movable pieces and could use a center. |

The sabres don't develop many stars because they haven't had a top 5 pick in almost ten years, not because of lindy ruff. And yes just because he is top 10 pick it doesn't mean Hodgson will work out, but it makes it more likely and it is still very early in his career. And That cap number will change in the new CBA and the Sabres have a lot of rookies who in the next few years will require some hefty raises. My point is I don't want to dedicate that much cap space to one player unless a) he is playing really well or b) I can get him cheap. - sabresfan365
2003- Thomas Vanek 5th overall
now that I think about it though that is almost ten years |

Vanek isn't all I wish he would be, but he's far from a bust. Just to add $.02. |

I believe stastny is an execellent center and could produce a point per game on a line with pretty good players, I think he would play great with vanek and pominville and will hopefully play good with jones and parenteau |

Vanek could have been have been worth 4 first rounders though because Edmonton sent an offer sheet tontrynto sign him when he was an RFA and if the sabres didn't resign him, they would've had edmontons 4 first round picks which would have been Paajarvi, Eberle, Hall, and Nugent Hopkins |

I think we're familiar with that, thanks.
Though it's the grandfather paradox - who knows where they finish and what other moves they make if that offer sheet goes through. |

Vanek is an elite scorer with a good center on his line...
I for one am hoping to see Vanek and Hodgson together from day one of training camp. They could be really good together.
Even in his bad stretch, Hodgson showed some vision on the ice that i haven't seen from a Sabre since 2007. He struggled with the move, but most do, it takes time to get comfortable. He was reaching a lot in games, trying way to hard to make plays. But later on he got comfortable and let the game come to him more and it worked.
I don't think it's out of the realm to see Hodgson get 70 points this season. |

I'd be surprised to see that number, but growth is expected. Van/Hodgson would be decent, neither player is a speedster so the pace would make sense, and Hodgson's vision could set up TV nicely. We'll see. |

If they would have gotten vanek there is no way of knowing if those picks still would have been as low as they are to have gotten those players..

This has been debated probably close to a million times in here.
Given the situation, Darcy pretty much had no choice but to match. Losing Vanek on top of Drury, and Briere would have been deadly.
Also, there really isn't any way of knowing if Edmonton would have been that bad given they got Vanek. Who knows the different approach Lowe might have taken had they chosen not to match the offer. |

Andrej Sekera is terrible he's one of the most over valued players in the nhl anything the sabers get for him is a steal if you ask me. I hated watching him when he was on the ice last year. just my opinion. |

When hodge first got here he was doing a pretty decent job at setting stafford up for good shots but i remwmber stafford specifically missing about 5 open nets.
A full offseason, camp, and preseason with hodge having the same linemates if its vanek/pommer or not will benefit him trememndously |

At first, he was cleaning up on Vanek/Pomminville's line. Then the wheels fell off and I'd be a bit surprised if he ever plays center with us again. |

Avs fans have been talking Stasnty here all day. Now you're dictating whether we can bring it up on our own thread? Yer a great guest, must say. - nfph
Maybe they were, but a couple of fans don't represent an entire fan base. You guys can talk about it all you want, it is just frustrating to see this guy make several misinformed blogs about it. |

I know but the point is that it would have been 4 high fist round picks because I don't believe vanek would have helped them much |
