Not as straight forward as it seems. Sekera actually has better rankings in his quality of competition and his relative corsi. Sekera is 30th in relative corsi amongst all NHL d men who played in at least 50 games, Carle is 57th. Sekera is 43rd in quality of competition, Carle is 73rd.

Basically Sekera is playing harder minutes than Carle, yet is having more success as far as flow of play is concerned.

In my opinion, Sekera is the better cap value, Carle will turn out to be an overpayment.

Are advanced stats the end all be all? Nope, but they do provide an opportunity to look at players in a different light.

- Gunner Staal

it is bad that Sekera is that high in those rankings.. goes to show you the level of defensemen we have... we may have a lot of them but we don't have quality.

PAVELSKI is who I think we should target.. Couture is ready to step up in SJ and be their 2C and is getting stuck on 3C minutes...Couture was 2nd on that team in total points last year
- JVince11

yeah getting him would cost double what briere would cost and thus making our first rd picks useless

I see the logic, but does not have a clear long term plan if the kids are part of the future

perhaps, I would givve the edge to briere only because of proven results with pommer and leino

thornton is one I would put between vanek and staff

I just think going after the bigger name centers are going to cost way too much and every team is going to be calling the Sharks, Ducks and Blue Jackets. I think Scheifele is going to be good enough to make the Jets this year so why not go after Bryan Little? I know he lacks the size we are looking for but is a real nice center with good upside. I don't know what to think of Grigorenko. Part of me hopes that he can jump right in but part of me says let him go back to juniors to dominate. He'll def. get the 10 game tryout though so I can't wait for that. Looking forward to hearing some good updates from rookie camp this week.

My whhole Reggie vs Carle debate comes down to and id need a flyers fan to give me the second half but it seems everytime a guy scores in front of the net there is reggie out of position chasing butterflies. Its like goal oh theres reggie dont think that is the case with carle

There is probably some truth in that. Regehr and Sekera play the hardest minutes on the team according to the advanced stats, Regehr is #1 on the Sabres in that regard.

you seem to have a small chub over wellwood.. kind of like you do with Flynn.

He would be a decent add but he would need to be a short term contract and that is if you think grigs and zem aren't making it.. unless he can play the 4th line center

I think he is a value contract that would keep our pipeline filled

if one of the kids can make it, bury wellwood on the 4th line
if they cant make it, you have a cheap fix with putting leino on the dot

flynn is going to be a solid player

Actually, the more I think about it, Briere would be a very good move. He's got history with half the team, even Leino as you mentioned and is still producing at a high level. Danny is only 34, which isn't ancient. I'd say he still has a couple of good years left in the tank and well all know he's killed it in the playoffs since he left town. He'd be no worse than Roy production-wise and would provide more leadership and grit. I am sure fans wouldn't think of it as a sexy move, but it would certainly be an effective one.

one of the best things about him is his playoff production... somethign most of this team does not have or has failed to show..

Ek seems to think that Toronto will be announcing a trade sometime this morning and NOT Luongo..

And textingsources came on to say that we will be announcing a "huge" trade today at noon. BOOK IT!
