I really think burke wouldnt go after a guy thats 33 who will be with us or is good for another 2 years... not the right fit, marleau is a guy for a team thats playoff ready and in need for an extra player.to push them further not the leafs. Stasny makes the most sense since hes younger or go for a small upgrade in dubinsky

Pretty sure Burke considers us a playoff team tho. And as mentioned earlier it's not like this team couldn't use a defensively sound vet forward. Especially one that could center our top line. And one that's fast enough to keep up with Kessel. I know Marleau is bit of a shooter, but I can't count how many beauty passes Kessel made to Bozak only for him to flub it up. Marleau isn't EXACTLY what we need, but if SJ is looking to shed salary (and god damn is Marleau salary at 6.9mil) then I'm sure Burke could get him for less than what he would give up for Dubinsky or Stastny.

I wouldn't mind Stastny at all, but Marleau is clearly the better bigger player and only 300k more. Dubinsky however does very little, especially for what would have to give up for him. Good player, but his skill set is optimized on a bolstered NYR roster, being the top center in TO I think would make him look average. Plus NYR love that guy, no way could I see them giving him up for scrubs.

1) Marleau is old and not the answer. We want a guy that will stick for us for many years not 2 years for a quick plug in to make the playoffs.

2) Stasny is the best choice.

3) Dubinsky is worth nothing more than a bag of pucks with the salary hes making and the points he puts up. Dubinsky is a scrub in my books but is a small upgrade over bozak.

eh we touched upon this in the other thread but to clarify

1) A 1c for "years to come" is not available. Simple as that. So why turn away a 1C that IS available and that may come at a cheap price that doesn't cost us all our assets? I would rather us have a 1C for the next 2 years+, than not at all.

2) Stastny is a center on another team, who's to say he's even available, let alone an option? The asking price could be quite large as well.

3) Dubinsky to NYR is worth more than a bag of pucks, and therefore to trade for him costing us valuable assets for a "slight" upgrade makes little to no sense.

The owners got what they wanted, and it's still (frank)ed up. I don't see how they don't gouge the players further, causing another work stoppage. I know the players said that they are willing to play through (possibly), but the owner probably don't want that. They are going to try and fix all the wrong and burry the players. Bye bye fall hockey.

The thing that makes McKegg untouchable is simply that he has everything these guys lack.

Skill
Size
Grit
Heart
Creativity

^Every Blue Chip Prospect must have 4-5 of these things. McKegg has all of them. He's like Tucker combined with a younger Mogilny

I'd take Marleau. Cheaper, stop gap, teaches Grabo/Colbourne/Bozak what it means to win, and is playoff money. Thorton and Pavelski are untouchable because of their intangible value to the team. Marleau... Marleau gets way to much hate from you guys. Deserves better.

Stastny is not going to move I don;t think. Another intangible asset that's worth more to his team than the market value on him might be. A first and Kadri/McKegg would be the basis and then add the +++? Ehhhh.

Still would love to see Toronto put some ridiculous package for package with nash being the center piece.

Nash
Mason
Brassard

2014 1st
Kadri
Blacker
Scrivins
MacCarther
Franson
+ Salary

I'd do it.

- Viktory

I like McKegg, but no. I don't think you have a clue who he is. He's got size?? He's 6'.... hardly huge. That's probably average size (barely). Gritt? I don't think he's overly gritty. He's a skill guy with terrific hands and vision, but needs to work on skating, and get better away from the puck.

Here's two trades that IMO, make sense for both teams:

MacArthur for Halak: we get a 1a/b goaltending tandem, St. Louis gets a defensively responsible feisty winger who can put up ~50 points.

Lupul for Stastny: we get a #1 two-way, playmaking center/make room for JVR, Kadri, etc., they get a #1 LW to play with O'Reilly or Duschene.

But.... Why would St-Louis trade Halak? They arguably have the best/cheapest goalie tandem in the league... Not sure why they'd want to mess with that.
