The problem is that so many teams (and influential/profitable ones, at that) have these deals in place and are so close to the cap because of them that banking on the new CBA to radically change the rules is foolish.

Are all these teams (Minny, Vancouver, NJ, LA, Pittsburgh, etc) going to vote to screw themselves over?

- Leeman4Gilmour

Well imagine the CBA goes down to $67 mil, teams at $70 or above need to shed cap now and will be desperate to move players or waive them.. I'm sure Burke is thinking about making a big trade but is also thinking about how much cap he should have because of the new CBA coming out (hence why there have been reports saying any deal for Lu would have to include Komi).

I'm sure Burke has something going on to change this team via trade, hence why he stated yesterday that he is not done.

Sure Suter and Parise would look great on any team... but still no #1 C and no legitimate starting goalie.
- GoneFullRetard

Minny has Koivu (who is very under-rated) and Backstrom. They also have many promising prospects, they will be a very very good team in about 2 years.

before the Koivu injury they were a good team.

Now they get him back, and Granlund(sp?) and Suter and Parise ... they could be very good this coming season.

JVR made either kulemin or macarthur tradeable.

we have Holzer ready to go, and Blacker MAYBE ready (id say 1 more year)...Franson is NHL set.

Kadri needs a spot, Frattin has a spot...

Lombardi and Connolly dont really serve much of a purpose unless we get an injury...Tim the tampon is an injury waiting to happen...

Reimer/Scrivens have a ton of potential, just unproven....

sooooooo, in my mind...something happens and im assuming somewhat of a big trade. (mac, franson, lombardi, prospect) 4 ???

thoughts?

The only way the cap will go down is if the players agree to take an even lower percentage of revenues, after the owners insisted last time that they needed this current arrangement to fix everything.

If that's the case, then this is all a moot point because there won't be hockey next year.

On the flip side, if there's another lost season, there may be opportunities to pick up star players from Florida, Phoenix, and Tampa Bay in a dispersal draft in 2013.

I don't think any of those parts nets you anything "big" unfortunately.

I see Kadri and Gardiner and picks if the deal is big. I am hoping it would be Phaneuf instead, but now that Schenn is gone, the odds of trading Phaneuf are really low.

Best case scenario. ... if Burke can not get a bag of pucks for Connolly, is that he gets injured and is out for 70 games. And we lose Lombardi somehow.

Kadri and Frattin can have spots. I hope Kadri gets to start the season on the 2nd line. Its time to see if he is a top 6 forward

I'll bet Bozak would start to look like a pretty suitable centre between Kessel and Parise.

And with Suter added to the back-end, we might just bring back the 2010-11 Reimer, again.

here's the thing. He was an idiot the last time around. All he had to do was run away for the final round and not engage.

Yeah, that may not be the most sporting, exciting or "honorable" thing to do.

On the other hand... just go back and watch Silva vs. Maia. Silva literally ran away from Maia for 2 rounds.

Sonnen did not lose last time because he was out fought. he lost because he was stupid (I realize that is a part of it).

... as far as Silva's injury? GSP fought half a fight with a torn abductor that actually really happened. He also beat a guy who was undefeated in 6 years (6?) while only having vision in one eye... that also was a real actual injury. Silva's injury was a big surprise and only came to light after he was dominated.

- GoneFullRetard

This fight has nothing to do with which Sonnen shows up. And everything to do with which Silva shoes up. If the bored to death, i dont feel like fighting Silva shows up, then easy win for Sonnen. If the i have something to prove finally Silva shows up and ready to go, then Sonnen is in a world of (frank)ing hurt. One more uninspiring boring fight from Silva in the main event, could even despite his talent, be the end for him in the UFC.

As for GSP he is a great wrestler with next to no knockout power, and usually dominates on the mat. The biggest missing aspect of GSP's game isnt striking, it is BJJ, and if he trained more in this area of his game he would be a much better, tougher all around fighter. He dominates on the ground but has next to no submission skills, and he should cause then i believe he could be lethal. Its obvious he cannot knock people out, he doesnt have the power, so he should be working much more on submitting people IMO. Especially seeing as how dominate he has been on the ground.
