played 60+ games four years in a row. sure, that means he's missing a good 15 a year, but his production is very solid when he's healthy. wonder what the market is for him. - OrangeBlack27

Did you see the first shift of the eliminating game vs. Pitt?
The guy came out, told his coach he wanted the first shift, told the players on the bench "watch this", went out and laid out the best player in the world and scored a goal.
If that is not someone who has the ability to rally the troops, I dunno what is.
To me, that shift solidified what was already pretty much a done deal anyway. Claude Giroux will be the Flyers captain - Flyers2821
I'm sorry you're not getting exactly what I am saying. I'm not saying G is not a leader, but different responsibilities come with the C then just being an impact player. The guy has to have the voice for the players with coaches, staff, media and refs. There's more to it then telling the guys "Hey we will win this game" and doing it. |

People said the exact same thing about Mike Richards back in the day, getting all carried away with the Bobby Clarke comparisons and all. In the end, he just wasn't mature enough to handle everything that the job entailed, and it began to affect his performance on the ice and his relationships off the ice.
I don't want them jumping to conclusions w/ Giroux. - Tomahawk
Yea but Mike Richards always had that punk in him when it came to talking to the media and what not. Richards was without question a leader on the ice, but it was clear he was going to have issues with the media for a long time here.
I don't think the maturity level of Claude Giroux is an issue at all, rather a driving force in why he should be captain.
I get what you are saying about Richards, but to me Claude Giroux is on a completely different level on AND off the ice in comparison to Richards. |

So you are just blindly making the assumption that Giroux doesn't fire up the guys behind close doors?

apparently they are worth about 3-4 million (Gaustad) - Phifly10
Gaustad isn't a zit on Madden's ass. He's nowhere near as good defensively as Madden was in his prime.
Gaustad has one goal in 48 career playoff games. PA-thet-ic |

did anyone hear any reasons why that guy gragnani wasn't qualified by the canucks? seems strange.... he's definitely an interesting option if the big moves fall through - FlyerMike18
A little like JvR, he caught lightning in a bottle during the 2011 playoffs, but then fell on his face the next season. As it stands, he doesn't have the defensive chops to hold down a top-4 job, and he's not as effective as a 5-7 guy. Plus, he's already at that age where he's not really considered a prospect anymore. |

His defensive shortcomings are certainly magnified at the Center position. He might be on the wing with Giroux by default. |

I thought the problem with Captain Richards was that he was divisive. The media was even implying, last year, that he was causing a divide in the King's locker room. The captain should be someone that brings the team together not one who drives them apart |

If Pronger didn't get injured it would of been perfect for G to learn even more from a long time team captain, but since he did get hurt the worst thing to do in my mind is to rush the inevitable because of circumstances. |

The captain is MORE than just firing up the guys. Some of the best captain's I have played with and coached weren't even close to being the best players on the team. |
