Do you remember his first shift against Pitt when we eliminated them? The guy is not only the best player on this team but the best leader as well. Not to mention he is tremendous with the media/fans.
Everything about Claude Giroux screams face of the franchise and leader of the team. - Flyers2821
i think many would just rather give it to a veteran. that can be a lot on a young player, particularly in a city like philly
i don't think people are trying to say anything about giroux, just that a vet would be better suited for that kind of pressure |

Giroux will wear the C. Unless they bring Bobby Ryan in and want to give it to him in a few years with his ties to the area and everything. |

I could be wrong, but I believe it had more to do with a tug of war with the organization. Maybe not as high profile as Lindros, but it was there. I hope he does great in Toronto, but I feel he is going to flop depending on how they use him. If he does play center I think Toronto is going to get a big wake up call. - Glak18
I agree with you about there being friction between JvR and the Organization. With the Flyers, I think, you need to be "all in" or you're out. The Flyers felt there was some question as to his commitment to the team, especially after the apparent disagreement they had over how to treat his hip injury this summer. I don't think it was about his performance on the ice as much as the organization's perception that he wasn't going to be the good soldier off the ice. Of course, if he was performing at superstar level they would be glad to put up with it.
I think JvR is a good guy and a good player and I think he'll be successful in Toronto. I just think he wasnt' a good fit with this organization and Holmgren decided to move on before it got ugly. I don't blame JvR for wanting to be in control of his body and his career, but if I'm building a team I'd rather have players who just want to be the good soldier. |

But he can still do those same things w/o the C...
Now a days in the NHL the C is a tag for the franchise player to show to the world, I feel it should go back to the guy who rallies the team behind closed doors. Not saying G doesn't do that, but no one here can say he does either. |

CC's 2nd home is the training room...always hurt - isaiah520
played 60+ games four years in a row. sure, that means he's missing a good 15 a year, but his production is very solid when he's healthy. wonder what the market is for him. |

Looks like Holmgren is going to get a bottle rocket up his nose in the next hour.
Hopefully he doesn't do anything drastic like go for a bike ride, or overpay Carle.

Did you see the first shift of the eliminating game vs. Pitt?
The guy came out, told his coach he wanted the first shift, told the players on the bench "watch this", went out and laid out the best player in the world and scored a goal.
If that is not someone who has the ability to rally the troops, I dunno what is.
To me, that shift solidified what was already pretty much a done deal anyway. Claude Giroux will be the Flyers captain |

definitely a nice dark horse candidate.... he has all the tools
my vote would probably go for briere, but talbot would be an interesting choice. he was probably my favorite player on the team last year, such a hard worker - FlyerMike18

that's cool, everyone can have their opinion. and i wouldn't be shocked at all if that's the direction the flyers go
i'd rather see a vet though. nothing against claude, i just think it's a safer choice. and there's nothing stopping the flyers from giving it to giroux in a couple years when hes a bit older |

People said the exact same thing about Mike Richards back in the day, getting all carried away with the Bobby Clarke comparisons and all. In the end, he just wasn't mature enough to handle everything that the job entailed, and it began to affect his performance on the ice and his relationships off the ice.
I don't want them jumping to conclusions w/ Giroux. |

If Laughton turns out to be John Madden I will be ecstatic. Shutdown centers who put up 35-40 points a year are very valuable. |
