They are small up front, but they can rectify that with a couple of cheap signings. Several solid 3rd/4th liners with size or at least grit left in FA pool. They could also make a trade.
I'm more willing to wait and let the young core of the team develop, rather than running out now and trading young assets for a guy like Ryan or Nash. If Shane Doan leaves Phoenix, I'd be very interested, especially if he's willing to take a 2 year deal.
The Kings also allowed their talented young players to grow together and develop into a championship team. - Jsaquella
One guy I would have went for is Brandon Prust for the 3rd line, Montreal made a nice play in getting him. Great forechecker, Great on the PK, corner guy, sticks up for his teammates & would have provided insulation for Couts |

I like Prust, but 4 years, $10mm is too much for a guy that would be a third liner at best here. |

Yeah I liked Prust but 3.5?? ehhh glad that Homer went away from that mess |

I love what the Flyers have done. Didnt overpay and some think that the Flyers were stupid to wait for the big two, what does that make Pitt, Det, Chi?? some teams havent gotten better and the Flyers team is still talented. - bigmookalookie
Schenn is too young to be a scapegoat, people will female dog and complain if JVR is lighting it up and Schenn is struggling, but people would be foolish to blame Schenn. Briere is what he is, a streaky scorer who is a liability defensively.
With Carle gone, Bryzgalov is going to feel the wrath of a lynch mob if he struggles again. |

Holmgren might be a bit busy tomorrow, I have a feeling that Homer will make moves or get a few role playing guys tomorrow |

That's more than the Flyers are paying Talbot and Prust isn't close to the player Talbot is. Very underrated PK guy though Prust. |

The bandwagon is half full. Luke Schenn is the scapegoat, along with Bryz and Briere.

Awesome. I'm going popcorn shopping in September. Good to know it behooves me to buy in bulk still. |

I hope he doesnt struggle. I love Schenn, big time hitter, stands up for team mates, and is a huge (frank)er. I think Homer has done well, (frank) Carle and the 6 yr 5.5 he wanted . Tomorrow may bring some interesting news from the Flyer front. I wouldnt mind Brunette or Mueller. What about MAG?? He could be a cheap buy. |

The Flyers haven't bled as much NHL level talent as most Atlantic teams.
The Pens have a ton of cap room, but traded Jordan Staal. Maybe they're in on Ryan and Nash, but both Columbus and Anaheim look like they'll want young forwards with some NHL experience in trade. The Pens have a ton of good young defense prospects, but Anaheim just added two solid NHLers and Columbus will need a name to sell in a Nash trade.
The Devils managed to keep Brodeur and Salvador, but they lost Parise. Add in their financial issues and they might not be able to replace Parise at all.
The Rangers lost a good locker room guy in Prust, and have the assets to make a move for Nash or Ryan without gutting themselves. They are the biggest worry in the division.
The Isles are the one team that basically tread water. They lost Parenteau, but added Vishnovsky and Boyes. Boyes has had a couple/few down years, but if he's gunning with Tavares and Moulson, he could rebound. |

The big shiny magic fun time players went elsewhere. I guess we'll have to watch Anime instead.

I think they are done in the depth defense market, and that's what Gragnani is right now.
If they add a defenseman, it'll be a top pair guy |

As well, Carle was $4.75 mill a year last week before maybe today.
$2.5 mill a year VS the $7.5 that Suter & Parise received? (inflated, but the market none the less).
I would say that about maybe too much for an average 3rd liner, but he's very versatile & has a few extra elements to him game, (over say an Aasham)
Just going back to an earlier post you did in reference to not all signings are for the first line, I do wish we could have looked into obtaining Prust, would have been a good move in my opinion |

it's a lot easier to let the team grow together when you've got that stud on d like doughty. hard to win a cup w/o them...not impossible, but difficult.
fwiw, I'd radically change something in scouting like steal one from an org that does a great job of identifying dmen. |

I would of loved to see Boyes here for the mil he got. I agree with all aspects tho. Pens better hope they get someone b/c the lost a decent amount of talent |

Schenn has potential. 22 is very young in the developing process of a d-man. He could be a # 2 eventually, more likely he will be a second pairing guy, but we'll see.
I think there might be something to Holmgren thinking he had a handshake deal with Carle, and after the Wideman deal came down Carle's agent came back to Holmgren changing their tune. I can see this angering Holmgren and him saying tell Matt to go piss up a rope. |

I would have been ok with $5.5mm for Carle on a 4 year deal. The 6 years is the killer to me.
Prust would have been fantastic at $1.75mm. He;s getting $2.5mm for the Habs |

uuuuuhhhh, no, he would have been a fan favorite here.
I picture someone thinking twice about hitting Couter in his head if Prust were out there, (just another element to his game). |

Doughty had a poor year the season before last, and he struggled for the first half of the season last season. He credits John Stevens with getting his conditioning to a high level and making him realize his potential.
Who knows, maybe they end up with Weber by bypassing Carle and Jagr. |

I felt $7mm was too high for Suter. I could have found a way to live with Parise for $7.5mm
Suter at that? I'd have been pissed. |
