No offense, but you're misundertanding the way LTIR works. The Flyers have about $10.8 million. Let's say Carle $5.5 and Voracek $4.0 are signed. that leaves the Flyers wth$1.3 million (not counting Summer cap allowance) and needing 1 forward. Once the the season starts they will have $4.9-$1.3 or $3.6 million more for cap space in a trade.

heard good things about Carlo Colaiacovo aside from his injury problems. Is he still available and can the Flyers add him for about $2.75-$3.00 for 2/3 years?

a week ago I wouldn't have gone over $5 million a year, but if he came back and asked us to match the deal, yes, I would have probably done it.

here's a question, on top of your head (not to check all the teams rosters), but when you look at our top 5 D men, there aren't too many teams that "blows us away" as far as overall depth, even W/O Carle.

The Flyers have good depth. They're just missing that top guy, especially with Timonen getting older and nearing the end. But unless someone else is added. There are opportunities opened up for players to get added responsibilities.

I like Bourdon. I liked some of what I saw from him last year. I have no problems if the Flyers make some minor role player signings from here on out, and see what happens. I think the Flyers have their sights set on some big fish.
- MJL

prob is, we now have a whole host of plyrs who need protected mins. if kimmo can't hit the ground running, we're gonna have trouble getting the puck out of our zone.

No offense, but your fairly new here. Ask anybody on here, who knows and understands the Cap better then I do? Have you read the CBA? I've read it multiple times.

1. Sign Doan at 4ish per for 3 years.

2. Lock Czech up. 3 or 4....maybe 5 seasons. Does 4 per sound cool? I think it does....

I think that should for under the cap plus some wiggle room.

Then we can watch these kids take care of business. I love love LOVE what Homer has brought us and love it even more for the future!!

No big trades. Every move Homer has made in this offseason has been the right one. He addressed the team's need for a young Dman for a player that was expendable (we played the whole year pretty much without JVR and still lit up opponents). He got a solid return for our BACKUP goalie that was still a fairly raw and unproven talent. He let Carpet, Jagr, Suter, and Parise get overpaid, while stregthening depth with minor and cheap signings. Hell, even Leighton took a 40% discount compared to what every other backup has gotten on the market.

I'm a fan of Homer's offseason so far.

Don't blow this team up. They'll get much better as they get older. It's gonna be fun to watch

When I "peruse" the other teams D depth, they all have at least one hole to fill, or require an upgrade in some capacity

I agree to a point, but this is one reason I wish the Flyers would focus on strengthening the D on the 3rd and 4th line with to way players. Suter would'vebeen a great add, but not at that cost. Weber yes, Suter no.

Bourdon played 16 minutes a game pretty much as a 2nd pairing d-man with Carle. Once Grossmann was added and his first concussion happened things changed. I'm concerned about limiting Kimmo's "hard minutes" on the PK. Guys like Coburn, Grossmann, and Schenn should be able to handle the heavy lifting on PK. Obviously, Homer knows more then us how Kimmo is recovering. Also, assuming Meszy is back on track to be 100%, haven't read about any setbacks.

Id like Doan, Id also like to keep an eye to next years offseason. Some potential heavy hitters with Weber, Perry, Getzlaf......

Fill in some role players, trade for Ryan as long as we keep 10 and 14......we be aight

Ok but I'm just going on what Bill Meltzer posted which is your LTIR allowance is equal to [LTIR contract-cap space]. Pronger's $4.9-$1.3 cap space = $3.6 LTIR allowance plus the $1.3 cap space. Is that not accurate?

One thing I haven't been able to find is when the Summer allowance ends and the LTIR allowance begins?

Limiting Timonen's hard minutes is a big key for the Flyers.

The flyers have concerns but so do most teams. Homer has to add some missing pieces. We missed out on some key players but the offseason isn't over yet.

I am new and trying to understand. I have a pretty good handle on the new MLB CBA, but not the NHL one yet.

What Bill said is true. But in that example, if the team would spend that $1.3M to get to the upper limit, they would then have Pronger's full LTIR allowance to use. LTIR allowance begins on day 1 of the Season.

Not sure if it's going to be possible, but if they can somehow avoid using LTIR, that would be great.

I don't believe the rookies will have a sophomore slump. Unlike most teams, the Flyers forwards still have plenty of room to grow even with their production which was at a high level last year. Just the experience gained by Coots, Schenn, and Read from last year should make them even stronger contributors this year.
