The Bob trade I liked, thought they got good value for him. Close to what Nashville got for Lindback, but then they used the main asset of the trade on a project goaltender who is at least 5-6 yrs away at the earliest. I would have preferred a somewhat safer more conventional player picked in the second round. - PLindbergh31
I wished the would of drafted a dman with that pick |

I could be wrong, but I believe it had more to do with a tug of war with the organization. Maybe not as high profile as Lindros, but it was there. I hope he does great in Toronto, but I feel he is going to flop depending on how they use him. If he does play center I think Toronto is going to get a big wake up call. - Glak18
If Toronto plays him at Center I think it would be a huge mistake. I don't see JVR being a playmaker, he's at his best when he's on the wing using his size and speed and getting to the net. |

#Flyers are reportedly $102-million dollars into Ryan Suter. Just think what they would/will throw at Shea Weber…
Wowsa thats a lot of dough |

Well the Pronger injury really increased the need for a physical presence on the blueline. Schenn is physical, and he's a good shot blocker. He's only 22 so perhaps he can put everything together and become a solid # 2, it's probably more likely he's a second pairing guy, but jury is still out on that. - PLindbergh31
I think he will do well, this year will be big for him. |

These draft picks are like lottery tickets Mook. Basically guys drafted outside of the top 10, you never know what you are going to get.
I would have felt a whole lot better had they taken Maatta in the first round, and Thrower in the second. But they didn't do so.
Have to give them the benefit of the doubt on Laughton, they have done very well drafting forwards in the first round the last decade. |

I agree, Didnt Matta slip into the 2nd round tho? I wished he would of been picked but what is done is done |

Nope, Maatta went two picks later to the Penguins.... |

i think matta was on the board when they picked in rd 1 and thrower was definitely on the board when they picked in rd 2 |

Nada. If they lose out on Suter, and Parise (which they will) both guys are going to sign with Minnesota today, they will overpay Carle, or give up a King's ransom for Bobby Ryan.
If they are intent on overpaying someone I would prefer it to be Parise, or Suter. At least get close to an elite talent for the money.
As it stands right now, there isn't a replacement for Jagr, or JVR, and the blueline lacks a puck mover. There isn't any guarantee Timonen starts the season. The defense core may start the season with two of Lilja, MAB, and Gustafsson in the lineup.
- PLindbergh31
might not be the same type player, but i'd rather go with a cheaper fill in than dump 6 mil a season on carle. rozsival or someone like that. preferably a one year deal situation
i would have no problem if they see how these guys can do this year. wait til next year so they can throw a 12 year 144 mil deal at weber |

Uhhhhh only the Rangers do stuff like that I think, and since they're not interested I feel you are right, but maybe Detroit, who knows. Hes not a 100 million dollar player imo, but apparently he is so says the market.
Next year man, next year. Weber,Getzlaf,Perry,Iginla.....and some other nice names |

No worries, they won't be getting Suter. Much more likely they give Carle in the ballpark of 6 million a year.
People despise him at 3.4, can you imagine Carle at close to 6? WHOA! |

Yup, if Suter decides on another team, bite the bullet for a year with a stop gap, and have Uncle Eddie write Weber a blank check. |

Exactly. I'd rather make minor tweaks. How about cheaper one year deals for Peter Mueller and Marc-Andre Gragnani, and trust that the kids will continue to develop and reach their potential? - Jsaquella

Iginla is an old man, Weber is the prize. If he reaches free agency it's going to be insanity. |

They will not give Carle that. They'd sooner trade a pick and maybe a prospect for an established D man with a lower cap hit. |

Knowing Homer, all the Flyers eggs are probably not in the Suter / Parise basket. I'm sure there is a plan B and, like Jsaq, I still like our team a lot.
I can't help but wonder what that Plan B is though. If we really want Ryan, just don't trade Couts or Schenn; if a defenseman is needed in the trade, so be it as long as we have an idea of who to replace them with.
I'd love Doan but his age and the years I've heard he wants is disconcerting.
Still don't want Nash.
Happy 4th Everyone!
P.S. Band of Brothers is on, and I love hating David Schwimmers character. - DrMidnite
The teams that lose out on Parise will be desperate. I guarantee Doan gets at least 3 yrs and 15 million from someone. And that's being conservative. |

Yes, but so was Jagr
FYI Iginla has 11 straight 30 goal seasons and counting on a crap team |

I don't know. I can see them giving him 5.5+. Hope I'm wrong. |

Dear God.. I wonder if that's a 13 year term?? I'd throw that money at Weber but this is getting nuts for Suter.. if we do get him, the second he makes a mistake, everyone will be all over him. |

all of these deals make the pronger deal seem completely reasonable. if only he could still play |
