schenn for Kane you'd have to think about. |

I don't know what the Flyers have planned for him. But he's been a frequent healthy scratch the last 2 Seasons. Right now the signing doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But we'll see what else happens. - MJL
ya know? that sounds familiar |

I think Schenn will be the better player long term. Kane's off ice issues worry me. |

Are you referring to Lilja? That's part of my point. We already have that veteran 6/7 depth guy not expected to play a ton of games. Maybe they view Gervais as an upgrade on Lilja and are going to move Lilja.

I think the end result may have been that. But I believe that Holmgren had every intention of trying to sign one of those players. - MJL
well, sure, but if he knew he was getting either both or none, I suspect he would prefer none, and yet he made the offers. |

I agree 100 percent. They stay and Homer isnt goign to move them, which is why I want to see a trade for a guy like Paajarvi. Wont cost the house, EDM needs Dmen and he can get more ice time in Philly. Guess we will wait and see |

I think it was more a case of if either or both would have agreed, then he would of chosen which player they preferred. They had real interest in both, and wanted an iron in both fires.

I don't think he offered the $$$ & term & figured he just wouldn't get them anyway.
Anymore, it seems now, when they jack the cap up $5 million the way they did, that more teams entered the fray as options for either players.
Many are saying wait until next year for Weber & Perry, but can a team that wants to sign a specific player giving up no assets, afford to wait? |

How could he choose if both agreed? He made offers to both. If both had accepted, I assume there is nothing he could do about it. Again assuming he preferred none to both (b/c of salary cap +young asset reasons), and also assuming he knew they were going to go somewhere together, why did he make huge offers? |

Very simple. Choose one and rescind the offer to the other. I don't think you can assume he knew they were going to go somewhere together. As a GM, you can't assume anything.
