I am sure one of the stipulations Parise had was that Koivu remained with the team. Last thing Parise wants is for them to trade away his centerman. - Flyers2821
I thought the 5th round pick at the end made it an obvious joke and to not be taken seriously. Should have added the good 'ol 9th rounder instead

keeping Jake is their best move
the only doubts I have is they may be struggling with his agent as to what he is worth long term
the flyers hold all the cards though as he is rfa
the only way I would deal him is if they really believe they can't get a long term deal done at some point and have to maximize his value through a trade
still I want to keep him, I love his attitude and size and skill set, and they are really short on top wingers right now - Marc D
I don't want them to trade either player. If they can't add what they need through draft of Free agency then stand pat. Simmonds and Jake are both top six forwards. Having a deep balanced team is more important to me than making a monster trade to add some name that hasn't seen a playoff game in multiple years or ever.
Great news, as we didn't overpay for someone with a ridicuous contract AND even though Parise isnt in a Flyers sweater I can now go buy a Parise Team USA jersey with a clean conscious!!!

I didn't know we were talking about Simmonds
I would hate losing him too
he is a perfect 3rd liner for the Flyers, and maybe can step up to 2nd line in a pinch
Also good PP guy

Thankfully, that soap opera is finally over. Now let's get down to some real business.
Homer should get Carle on the horn immediately..."Matt, I've got a five year, 26 mil contract on my desk. Give me your answer before I finish my burger or it's in the can". - 77rams

Fighting? yeah, no question.
Hitting? hmm, I'd give the edge to Simmonds on overall physical play. Scoring goals those dirty goals? Harts is a monster at that.
It's not putting Hartnell down to say that Simmonds is a tougher hombre in certain areas. - FlyerGuy
Hartnell out hit him by over 40 hits. as for fighting I think we can agree it's hardly relevant today and Hartnell has done his share then some, if anything that's probably the only category I could see Simmonds surpassing him, but so what?

I'm not sure how this evolved into a Simmonds vs Hartnell comparison. My original point was that I think what Simmonds brings to this team is more valuable than what Jake brings. At least at this point, considering Jake's trouble finishing.

Thank the lord, santa clause, buddah, baby jesus and joe pesci they both signed in Minny. Keep them out west and off our cap. Tweek and go balls out for Weber
Interesting that there has been no additional rumors to follow these signings... I thought for sure once these deals went down the rumors mill would EXPLODE.

You said he brought toughness which the team lacked I brought up Hartnell being a tough player but you told me he's not as tough as Simmonds. I'll leave you with a video maybe our definitions of tough are not the same either way the tape don't lie

No, I don't think Harts is as tough as Simmonds ... but that doesn't mean I think Harts is a wuss.
Let me rephrase it: I think Simmonds ADDED some toughness to the team that was lacking when Lappy (and maybe Asham) left.
It's not that Hartnell doesn't do his part in that area. He certainly does. It's just that overall the team was tougher to play against with Simmonds AND Hartnell.
Yep. The Flyers are losers because they didn't get to hand two very good, but not elite, players elite money for the next 13 years. Oh how (frank)ed we are as a team and fanbase.
