perhaps we really do need to acquire that very cap friendly Rick Nash contract - jimbro83

at this point the owners are stupid for not just extending the current CBA, which they had every opportunity to do.
But, forgotten in the mix is that the owners need the players to approve that crazy divisional realignment too.
If the owners cry poverty they really should be all lined up and shot.
They eliminated an entire season to get a salary cap, and ever since then virtually every owner has signed contracts specifically to circumvent the cap in any way they can.
If anybody is pro-owner this time around, they can ass kiss my grits yo. - jimbro83
The first lockout was blamed on teams like the Rangers for overspending. This one will be blamed on teams like NJ and Pitt for cap circumvention. I would hate a lockout but would love the ammo against two of my most hated teams.

Assuredly we will be lumped into the villain category too with the Richards signing and demoting Redden to the AHL to clear his cap hit off our books.
Usually it's a good thing to be hated because that means you've won some championships. I don't mind being hated; I just wish I had some more championships. |

What the hell did the pens do? If you're gonna blame them you should probably look in the mirror. |

I imagine the frontloading of Crosby's deal. I don't have the numbers in front of me but that would be my guess.
Okay, just looked them up: First 3 years at $12 million and the last three at $3 million with the other 6 seasons ranging from $9 million up to $10.9 million. |

The blame shouldn't escape the rangers, flyers, Bruins, and a bunch of other teams any more than the Devils or Pens. |

the Rangers deal to Gaborik was a straight up 5 year, 7.5 million dollar a year deal.
No 5 years at the end of it for 1 million a year to circumvent the cap. |

Brad richards starts at 12 and ends at 1 million.
Kovalchuk has the same amount of 1 million dollar seasons as richards. |

3 teams have signed players to 100 million dollar contract, 4 if you count the wild with the 25 million dollar signing bonuses that suter and parise got. The rangers arn't one of those teams. |

the Devils GM was a leader in creating the current CBA and a leader in saying the league couldn't live without a salary cap.
And, a leader in creating the biggest cap circumventing contract in history.
Sather and the Rangers were never hypocrites, you know they were always going to spend whatever they were allowed to, always will. |

I don't see how this makes them less or more responsible if there is a lockout in the upcoming year. They both have put forth contracts that have a huge contrast in salary that is essentially against what the cap tries to do. |

small market teams cry foul in 2004 when teams like the habs leafs and rangers buy players. Small market teams now spend just as much as the big boys and it's still the rangers fault.
did the rangers sign any of these guys with terrible contracts.

You are missing the point of the entire argument. I'm just saying the rangers are no less responsible than other teams when the Richards contract does the exact same thing as the Crosby contract, and goes against what the cap is there for in the same ways as those contracts. |

correct you are. but don't tell the rangers are in the same boat as the others. No 100 million dollar contracts of ovie, kovi, or parise. no contract that exceeds 10 years. |

I don't see what length has to do with it. Kovy has the same amount of 1 million years as Richards. Ovechkin's salary is consistent all around, that doesn't break the cap's intention in any way. |

not you, but people on this site have a problem with contracts the exceeds 10 years. Just saying the rangers don't have a player with a "Lifetime" contract. |

true, but they circumvented the cap in same manner for final years of Richards' contract. Granted, it was in response to others doing the same thing, but this is one area I have never criticized in my blogs since our team is just as guilty as others, even if solely doing so to level playing field. Plus, look at NBA, back-loading deals for major luxury tax implications, how well did that lockout work? |

i honeslt have no idea. Don't follow the nba. sorry. I'm not saying the rangers are innocent but if a lockout happens this year it won't be bceause the rangers tried to out spend everybody. |
