A buddy of mine knows a few devs players, he heard on monday Parise and Suter were going to sign in Minnesota. Then Marty resigned and was trying to convince Parise to stay, it was between NJ and Minnesota. We all know how that turned out today. Now heard today Kovy will be headed to Montreal. We'll see. |

Minnesota overpaid for both players, 68 points just got 35 million over the 1st 3 years of a 13 year deal, if this doesn't spell lock out I don't know what does, non the less I can now root for Team USA's Zach Parise. - cranford93
In this day's NHL, the only thing that's really a concern is the cap hit.
Parise's cap hit of 7.5 million is practically spare change with how high the ceiling is. Even with Parise and Suter's contracts, they still have 55 million left to spend. The salary isn't that big of a deal. Parise isn't going to be playing on the same level he is now into his late 30s. He plays a high maintenance game. He's no Kovalchuk or Selanne where they, for lack of a better word, minimize the contact. Parise's style of play lends itself to injuries, wear and tear, etc. Just don't get what's wrong with a six year deal. Hell, you can probably make more money during your career that way. |

It sure doesn't make much sense unless Kovy is forcing it. Why re-sign Brodeur, Salvador and Hedberg and try in vain to bring Parise back if after losing Parise you trade your team's best player in Kovalchuk? Everything up to this point says they were building for today and how does trading kovy help that? |

Maybe they are cleaning house?? I mean from an objective standpoint, it doesnt look like the Devils have a bright future with that current squad. |

If they try to flip Kovalchuk for Pacioretty, then yea, I could understand that. |

Just doesn't make any sense to me. Why sign Brodeur for 2 more years if you are going into sell mode. I don't buy it. |

There are of course trades that make sense but why wouldn't that move have been made prior to losing Parise. The roster becomes part of the selling point when teams recruit free agents. If that trade was on the table isn't that something that should have been done with the idea it would help convince Parise to stay? Or was the trade contingent on whether Parise re-signed or not? |

I agree, just spreading what i heard. No clue how true it is, but after hearing about Parise and Suter on Monday and actually seeing it happen today... i wouldn't be surprised. NJ has to rebuild at some point and Montreal has a few young pieces they could be interested in. but..Like you said it doesn't make too much sense, unless Kovy wants out. With their current roster they could add a piece (Semin?) to replace Parise's production and still possibly contend. We'll see what happens. |

thats what im saying. I dont think NJ has ever had to actually go through the total rebuilding process before. This is a good time for them to do it. |

Even if only some of the Wild's blue chip prospects develope they still are going to be stacked. Add these young guys to Parise, Suter, Koivu, Heatley, Clutterbuck and Setoguchi.

The current squad is the same damn team that made the SCF just without Parise. Just have to replace 69 points and 15 playoff points. It'll be hard to replace what he brought to the team, but I don't get why people are so quick to write off the Devils without Parise. |
