Here's the problem with this line of reasoning.
ANY team (and Suter himself) can hire a private jet to ferry him form Detroit or Pittsburgh or Nashville to Madison. Do you really think no other team has thought about this or offered it.
Do you really think the Wings' jet was going to stay in Madison forever? So how is this important. The Wings made a big pitch for Suter. So did other teams.
Bob Suter, Ryan's dad wants him closer than a long jet flight away, that's why the family soured on Nashville. Ryan's farm is 1.5-2 hours BY CAR from Chicago's NW suburbs.
He might well sign in Detroit or elsewhere, but a lot of people are truly not seeing the forest for the trees. - John Jaeckel
Is that by Ferarri or regular car? |

Billions of Wirtz's dollars = very important
Stadium + new practice facility / mall = important
Toews being a winner and still very young = super important
Q being one of the most respected coaches in the NHL if you like him or not = kind of important
Bowman family involved regardless of competence = important
Chance to make lots of ancillary dollars = could be important
Living in the best city in the United States of America aside from the goofy weather = could be important
Demonstrating they are willing to do what is necessary to try and be annual contenders = super important
Lots of good things going on - fattybeef
Dead nuts on.
I would also add, favorable geography for both players for slightly differing reasons.

They get both Parise AND Suter? Hawks are heavy favorites for quite a few years...
I'd be floored if these two weren't talking and didn't know that. |

All of this - but, again, ultimately, if they don't get them: kudos for trying, but what have you done for me lately? What did you get instead?
Is the new team better than the old team and a SC contender? That is the ultimate.... - StLBravesFan
They have the rest of the offseason to improve, just because they might not get one or both of these guys isn't the end of the world, and ultimately that's the point I'm trying to make. But the point they stepped up and made a legitimate effort to get these guys, it at least allows me to give them the benefit of the doubt until October (or whenever the hell the season starts) to find ways to improve this team. |

While I have my problems with Chic-Fil-A, In-And-Out Burger, and other chains that keep hitting me over the head with their religious beliefs, the real issue is that THE FOOD IS TERRIBLE!!! |

The Hawks are a terrific organization but alot of players like a simple, out of the limelight existence. Running out to do commercials doesn't turm everybody's crank.
And Jersey may be broke now, but I smell the hand of Bettman dragging new money and partners in right now - how else could they be bidding if there isn't new money? - RickJ
Bettman's a f'n jackass. (Especially for reducing the suspension on that ass wipe Torres.) It would not surprise me one bit that he's working a back door deal for money so NJ can retain Parise.

And who is to say that perhaps the red wings and the racoon on Ilitch's head weren't coming to make a last ditch effort to get him, instead of sealing the deal. Maybe Cheli was having a beer w/Kaner at the Kollege Klub. |

With both in the fold, that would make it easier to use kane to fill a dual need on the team at some point either at the dead line or after a cup run.
*Note: Said cup run cause CC would still be in net.......so............... |

Will speak to Dar and get both of them into the basement addition in Lincoln Park - 15 minutes down Halstead to the UC. That's got to be a sweetener - oh, I forgot the f'n contractor is running 90 days late on the addition. |

Yeah, I definitely wish McDonough and the marketing machine would stop it with getting the players involved in these dog and pony shows with commercials, cooking demonstrations, even the convention. Let them play freaking hockey. I can see why a player would shy away from that, especially guys like Parise and Suter who aren't flashy guys.
And I hear you on the white hand of Saruman, er, Bettman all over the Devils. That ticks me off. Talk about a conflict of interest. |
