Honestly, I think that angle is over-rated.
Personally, I grew up in Pitt., but have lived the past 6yrs of my life in Washington, DC. I'll always go back to Pitt. to see my family and for sporting events, but I live in DC now. Parise has lived in NJ for 6yrs. In many ways, that is more his home now than Minnesota is. - s0rcerer1984
His future wife is from the area as well. He has said he wants to win, yes, but he also wants to be "the Guy" on his team. I don't see that in CHI or PIT. MN can only offer him the dream and the cash, it's our only Asset. |

To all the PIT fans out there with more Crosby knowledge than me:
I heard on ESPN this week that the Crosby contract has a huge downside. If I understood it correctly, 100% of the contract money is guarenteed. Since Crosby has a history of Head injuries, his contract is not insurable. Therefore, if he were to have his career ended next season by a cheap shot to the head, the Pens would be out all that cash for the next 12 years with no insurance to back it up.
If all of that is true, why is it a good deal for the Pens? Outside the fact that Sid sells tickets and is the best player in the game. Given his recent history seems like a huge gamble on the part of Mgt. |

Because he has and will continue to make the team money. No Crosby, no building, no team in Pittsburgh. His value is immeasurable. |

I would say the Penguins doctors feel pretty good about Sid's health moving forward or they wouldn't of signed him. Sid could've asked for alot more. Also Ron Burkle is a billionaire if he wants to invest in Sid I'm thrilled. The Mario group is making boat loads of cash with the new arena. Sid will be a Penguin forever and that's all that matters to me. |

Which is the bigger gamble?
Sid gets concussion and doesnt play
or
Sid signs with another team and shoves it up Pittsburgh's ass for the rest of his career. |

So he is bigger and more important the the long term future of the team? No one "employee" should have that much power. |

That is such crap. I have yet to see a legitimate source stake that claim. The only time I have heard it is from Buffalo fans and now yourself. |

Who says it effects the long term future of the team
If he gets hurt, he goes on LTIR and doesn't count against the cap, they continue to sign new players and win with the players they have, Crosby remains with the team no doubt in some capacity, management, marketing, whatever
What if the Wild gives Parise a big fat contract and he turns out to suck? - What if he blows out another knee, loses a step and is never the same player again, What if he's worn out by his early 30'2 and they're stuck paying him for the next decade?
He'd still count against the Wilds Cap, so same deal.. |

If they have to pay $10 Mil a year for a player who's career is ended, Cash flow might be an issue. I'm an not the great hockey mind, just trying to understand how the GM's make these deals.

Is his dream to play in his hometown, or to play on a competitive team year in and year out - one that competes for Stanley Cups?
Being the Guy in Minnesota is nice, but I would think he wants help to win a title. Minnesota can't provide that. Sorry

You tell me ... you acquired Heatley. You are paying 7.5 million for his worthlessness. What's the difference? Not trying to be an ass about it. It's pretty simple on why Crosby got the contract.

Because the benefits of the contract far outweighted the calculated risk it is. Case closed. Its not even an issue. |
