At this point DOAN would be awessome if you know what I mean.
- Orpik44

I'm not going to get my hopes up with Doan like I did with Parise only to be let down even though I'm glad the Pens didn't give him that long contract.

My god people calm down... From website to talk radio the city is in a freaking panic! Why? This team without any additions will compete to be the best team in the East. The truth is if Fleury is on his game will go far in the playoffs. END OF STORY!!!

I say no trades and get Doan.

Dupuis- Crosby- Doan
Neal- Malkin- Kunitz
Kennedy- Sutter - Cooke
Glass- Vitale- Adams

Jeffrey- Tangradi

Orpik- Letang
Martin-Niskanen
Engellend- Despres

Bortuzzo or Strait

This team looks pretty damn good to me and if Tangradi or Jeffrey find their game it's real good. Despres is going to be a Top 4 maybe this season. Most teams would kill for this roster. Now get down off the bridges people!!!

- lloyd095

I don't think anybody is looking for the nearest bridge, but I think you're glossing over some possible problems. Obviously adding Doan is a pretty big assumption considering he's the only guy left that most teams want and he clearly favors staying put in zona.

Our D scares me frankly. These are the same guys that got demolished in the post season. If Martin and Nisk are our second pairing, there are going to be some pretty happy power forwards around the league. Despres looks ready but he wouldn't be the first yound Dmen to suffer growing pains.

Fortunately, I think Shero will be working phones and he's money in trades.

Both Dupuis players - Same hometown (Laval, Que.), both born in April, both have worn number nine...and yet, they are totally unrelated.

Who wants to get rid of him. He scored 24 goals and had a 17 game point streak. Without getting PP time.

Give the man a raise.

true....some people wanted him out or down to the third line. Good thing is that he's a hard worker.

I see Vokoun for Johnson. Major improvement. Seems like you are jumping off the bridge. Would you have wanted Shero to go 14 years, 105 million for both Parise and Suter? 13 years is utterly ridiculous for either.

Indeed, signing a backup goalie to, what, 2 mil a year, to cover your 5 mil a year "superstar" is a solid investment.

I'm not saying he should have done anything outside of what he did, I just have to question the fact that the Pens can't land any big free agents given the talent pool and cap space that they have. What gives?

We don't know what Shero had to offer, but neither the money no term are likely what Minny offered. For what its worth, Minny overpaid for both these guys and now have to live with those contracts for a LONG time. Pens dodged a bullet IMHO.

It seems like ages ago when Hossa left us, and the only FA forwards we signed were Fedotenko and Satan...and that worked out OK, IIRC

If the Pens do NOTHING else before the rest of the season, they still have the 2 best players on the planet. Most teams would envy our position.

Assuming they can stay healthy.

Everyone knows these contracts will not be played out. Both Players will retire before they are completed and since they are under 35, the cap and money come off the books. I am happy the wild got better, A LOT better today! Hope to see the young guns up in the next few years and then we might be able to contend.

Well, they have three more players to sign and like only 2.5 million to do it, so Johnson might be in the fold soon.

Our defense will improve with Despres being more seasoned and how the season ended. If Fleury wasn't terrible in the playoffs that defense would also look better. That defense looked damn good the last 2 months of the season when Fleury was playing out of his mind.

so does anyone think any of the following will happen today:

martin gets traded
trade for a top 6 winger
sign semin
sign mueller
sign huslieus (sp)
trade for nash

and the most likely thing, do nothing and sit and wait for july 9th for doan

I have high hopes for Despres too, but I'm a little nervous about him jumping into a top 4 role without some hiccups.

The Pens D was largely pretty good for most of the season, but the last 10 games or so of reg season, plus the playoffs, they were nothing short of putrid. I believe it had more to do with the system and the forwards not caring about any defensive responsibilities, but still our D got exposed for what they are..... prone to bad decisions and a little soft.

MAF wasn't an innocent bystander, but, how many odd man breaks does he need to stop? I think the Pens gave up more odd man rushes in one game than the Kings did and any one of their series's. This team needs needs to get bigger at D and Forward IMO.

haha

in this case probably Pascal would keep with only "Dupuis". I know you're jkg but

The funny thing is that both have the same surname and are from the same city> Laval, Quebec...and r not related
