You know what's strange? This roster is full of holes. We only have two good starting pitchers and maybe three good to decent bats in the lineup and the Bucs are eight games over .500 for the first time since 1992?

I don't think that is how you handle it with a player of Parise's calibre. It's one thing to yank the deal when you are dealing with a 41 year old money grubber, it's another thing when you are dealing with one of the top forwards in the game.
- Ben37

I hear the offer keeps being upped and that some teams have to keep matching the longer this goes on... I dunno he is close to being not worth it to me. The whole 12 year deal thing is ridiculous for a player like him when we have Crosby, Malkin and Letang as players that you would want on your team at that late age... its screaming a buyout contract or retire early deal, Shero CANNOT give this guy a no trade clause

The drama I would say is the media and talent starving teams... Parise and Suter are just employees that are in demand.
- nelson911

Exactly, now put it into your own situations. This isn't meant to target one person, but say you've been working at a place for 5+ years and it's been really cool, now suddenly they say that they are renegotiating your contract so you are free to look into places that are similar. Now you've applied at a number of places and you are highly qualified, your old place wants you, a new place across wants you, a place that is a 5 drive from where you live now wants you and a place that is halfway across the country wants you. Now you have to decide what is best for you and your family and see what they are open to.

The only difference is that you don't have millions of fans, twitter freaks and media whores all over you.

Ok folks, this is the last thing I'll say regarding Parise and Suter, I trust the several sources that have told me Parise #Penguins (cont)

(cont) Suter #RedWings; announcement for Suter Friday and speculating Parise Thursday, I'm sticking my neck out on this, trust my sources.

I've heard that the Penguins have stayed firm with their offer and there term and year average are the strong points. If the cap keeps climbing and with Orpik, Martin and Kunitz all aging I don't envision problems with Malkin or Letang, besides with Letang we very likely could see a situation where Morrow, or Pouliot is ready to jump into that gap anyways.

All in? Nope. This roster is very thin all over in starters and bats. That said, its simply amazing how this team has faired. Hurdle is the Manager of the Year WITHOUT QUESTION in the NL.

With the way teams are spending just to get to the cap floor ... Jagr at 4.5 million among other ridiculous contracts, I don't see the cap jumping up.

Not saying its gospel or anything but Hockeyy insiderr dude tweeted that Minny sweetened the pot and the Pens matched.. I'm guessing front loaded the deal more???
I see Martin being expendable maybe this year, I don't think Shero will trade him unless he can secure another good d-man at the same time. Orpik will probably be expendable as well when his deals ends unless he takes a new discounted contract. Letang I do not want to lose, he is a one of a kind, and will continue to get better.

Even then if there are teams that are willing to spend like that, take Brian Campbell at $7.1M or take Luongo's contract than at some point if the Penguins have to I'm sure they can move Martin or another large contract to free up cap room.

This Hockeyy insiderr is reminding me more and more of Eklund.

Letang isn't a one of a kind. He is very good, but he is just a very good puck moving defensemen who can skate and has a decent shot. The nice thing is that with proper patience those defensemen come about all the time.

Remember when Gonchar left, a lot of the media was worried about who would man the PP, and Letang stepped right in. Who knows in three years Joe Morrow might be the best defenseman on the team.

Eklund is a freakin joke, this other guy at least stays within reason and doesnt mention Philly in every bloody rumor.

Letang does everything well including missing the net.. I disagree that a d-man with his attributes come about all the time, especially drafting one as your own. He is a solid hitter, can shoot, pass and has great speed, and like I said, he probably hasnt hit his ceiling.

Joe Morrow may be like Eric Tangradi.... he's just a "what if" at this point, I like to deal with more reasonable certainties.... and that is Letang will get a Norris trophy.
Apologies if that sounded snotty.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Last year when they were playing well late in July it was a fluke even though some thought it wasn't. This year has a different feel to it because of their pitching. Now all of the sudden the offense has woke up in June and now into July. Still, I wouldn't remotely consider them a contender to win it all but if they can add some pieces and with the addition of another wildcard then they might just sneak in the playoffs.

It's only half way through the season andunfortunately it wouldn't surprise me to see them fall flat on their faces like last season but honestly they have done more than I thought they would so far. Can they keep it up with be the question for the second half of the season.

Ben the one thing that stands out the most in Letang IMO is his athletics. The guy is a machine and seem to have good work out habits. This will keep him very good for years. And he has that nasty part of his game and can hit a bit for a guy his size. Hard to go around him. He's a keeper for sure!

Morrow has the tools and the talent to be a #2 with Letang without a doubt! Great athlete as well. Despres, Harrington and Maatta can fill out the 3-5 d-positions in 1-3 years. Not mentioning Pouliot....we are very RICH on D.....might have to trade a couple

Look it's a different story if all of these "Unreliable" accounts like NHLSourcesSay,Incarcerated Bob, and Hockeyy Insiderr are picking diffrent teams, but the fact they are all saying it's the penguins...that is why we keep posting their stuff, they might be living in Ma's basement...but they got SOME reliable sources/tips.

And the talk about a no trade clause, totally agree. If he wants that send his butt to Calgary.
