MacArthur + Gunnarsson + Percy for Stastny?

Maybe too much?

- cor99

Done. A guy with no place on the roster, an iffy prospect whose place in the prospect pool just got lower, and a second pairing d-man for a top line centre?

Sign the paperwork yesterday.

ya, after the fact. Of course they are going to rag on him - they just traded him. They also stopped saying how much Schenn is over-rated

but at the trade deadline when the deal was being discussed, EVERY flyer fan on here was expecting Schenn + a 1st for JVR.

- Big_Lightnin

Ya every flyer fan thought it would be schenn plus for jvr

I kinda did 2

Would probably be more along the lines of a 2nd Rounder 2013, Franson, Bozak, Macarthur for Stasny

Moving Gunnarsson right now will rip a hole in the Leafs D the size of Texas.

At this point, they can't really move anymore Dmen comfortably.

- Brian Huddle

I think we can... Holzer is NHL ready, and there is always the option of signing a vet d-man to a 1 year deal

If u watched the draft or listened to the insiders and
gms they all where saying you never pick based on needs ...

No where in my post did I say The schenn deal was a slam dunk I said I thought it was a good deal

And I also don't say the aulie deal was a great deal I said It made sense base on a NEED ( u should like that) they needed size up front

- The_Vark

Need for the Leafs, not the Marlies.

Anyway, like I said, we have different opinions and that's fine. IMO the Leafs would be a much better team today if they had A) tanked and B) drafted according to their needs. You disagree. Unfortunately unless there is a parallel universe in which they proceeded the way that I had hoped they would there's no way to compare the two paths.

All I know is they have been in the toilet for years now and I see no reason why that should change in the near future. Hopefully I'm wrong and all our dmen drafted end up being the backbone to winning a Cup and we become the first team in history to have a dynasty with a collection of 2nd and 3rd line centres. But I have my doubts and I'm not alone.

Nice job on this. Can't disagree with those top two picks since they just made sense and you've got to just take the best players when they are presented to you. I'm sure they were looking in other directions at 2, but Finn couldn't be passed on. Wish him the best of luck and at least as a local guy can somewhat understand what he's getting into here .

With Rielly have to say it didn't take long for me to get excited about that pick. Was thinking forward, but constantly was debating between taking Rielly or Murray at 5 if forwards just went 1-4. There are risks, but one can only imagine how good he can be if he reaches his potential.

Kind of seems like the Leafs will be big at beer parties. Have McKegg (The Kegger) and now Rielly (as Captain Morgan).

Can't say much about the other picks, other than they sound pretty solid. Have to say for the sake of comedy really like the Loov pick.

On a side note kind of glad Faksa went where he did. If he's going to turn into the player you expect then glad it's way out in Dallas.

Well we are talking about 1st line centerman, neither berglund or dubinsky wow me but dubinsky can reach 60 pts with 20 goals iunno how berglund if playing the second line centerman cant acheive more than 50 pts or keep consistent like grabo given all those minutes... In my opinion both are crap, but i like how hes a big bodied centerman at 6'4
- Mapleleafs_91

If Berglund can hit 52pts then it's not out of reach to hit 60pts and berglund has had 4 seasons, 3 of them right around the 20 goal mark, 21, 22 and 19. Also he had 7pts in 9 playoff games and was one of the only players that was a + during their run.

Try Kulemin, Franson, and Colborne
- Mapleleafs_91

Mac instead of kulie would be better IMO

Kulie has more upside the Mac and a better two way game

And because kulie had an off year macs value will be higher

They only have depth at d because they have neglected drafting forwards. Plus, Aulie is an NHLer and Ashton isn't. Pretty clear who wins in a deal when one guy isn't in the big leagues at least for the time being.

- deerow84

So Edmonton would have won a trade where they obtained the rights to Joey Crab for the first overall pick?

A pet peeve of mine: when Leafs fans say we'd have to "overpay" for a good player in a trade.

I look at this roster and see 12-14 easily expendable pieces, and a couple more who would make me think a little harder about moving them. We have just a few untouchables.

The team that gets the best player wins the trade. If I had to "overpay" for Ryan, Getzlaf, Duchene, Stastny, whomever... So be it.

Looking at the history of blockbusters in the NHL, the team that gets the star player has almost always won the deal.

- Leeman4Gilmour

Remember when Phili overpaid to land Eric Lindros; but seriously besides Duchene i wouldn't be giving up young talent to go after players in their prime. We did that enough in the Quinn era.

Gunnarsson is on the top pair, and is the best "shutdown" guy on the team at the moment. He logs huge minutes. Holzer doesn't replace that. No one on the team does.

Holzer is a 5-6 Dman. That's his upside.

Okay i see your point, berglund > dubi ... but i dont think he will be the big game changing 1st line centerman were looking for.. max 2nd line centerman or third.. I still believe getzlaf is going to resign with the ducks along with perry. Dubi and berglund are not the answer. Bobby Ryan is better a winger and not a center hes a big bodied goal scorer so thats a no go for transitioning to full time centerman. I still think stasny is our best bet and most rumoured and probably available player that is expendable for the AVS since they would want some defence from us.

What vet?

And even if Holzer is NHL ready, people say he'll replace Schenn.

It'd be really stupid to put Hozler, a rookie, in the top 4 and expect him to succeed.

Throw stupid, crazy money at Suter.

I'm not joking. I'm of the opinion that you really can't overpay too badly for elite talent in free agency. It's a myth.

You overpay for mid-level talent on free agency. Low end talent typically comes at a fair price, high end talent will always be in demand, but mid-level guys (Connolly, Armstrong, Ladd, Wisniewski, Malone, etc) always get overpaid.

Kovalchuk wasn't overpaid, for example, even though everybody thought he was at the time (including myself). But there will always be a market for elite talent. There will always be 1 team out of 29 willing to take him off your hands if need be.

Right, neither of the 2 are an answer for us, Guys like Stasny, or a healthy Andy McDonald, Etc. are our answers.

Hell I'd love to go for the bigger Centers but you just can't. Even an aging Thornton is something I'd throw a big trade at to solve our Center problems for even a couple years.

Dion - Gunner
Liles - Gardiner

Komi

According to capgeek Ryan Parent is a UFA.... is that correct?

Also if need be... i wouldn't mind signing Colin White, Steve Staios, Brett Clark to a 1 year deal.... (Again if available, they are listed on capgeek as FA's)
