I think Tim Thomas has this level of whack-job potential.

but I don't care if he can stop the freaking puck for a year and it keeps us from overpaying for Lolowngoal.

- GoneFullRetard

I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm going to stand up for Timmie here.

If I was on a Stanley Cup winner from 2001 to 2008, there is no way in heck I would have gone to the White House and smiled and shook hands with George W.

Thomas did the same thing.

Sorry, but I have to respect him for that.

“I was able to talk to (Leafs GM) Brian Burke and also Dave Nonis,” Brodeur said. “We had great conversations. Love the direction where they’re going.

“For me it could’ve been a fit but ultimately when Lou (Lamiorello) came back with that extra year, that made a big difference. They seemed like they were really interested. But I know that the organization is making the right steps for them.”

- peddy-93

Well good to hear that someone like Marty thinks we're heading in the right direction. You can't not respect Brodeur. This kind of puts me at ease a bit, to be honest, that a guy like him was actually considering playing here. Obviously his heart lies in New Jersey and he wants to retire a Devil and that was ultimately what made the decision for him...oh, and that he just barely missed out on winning another Cup with them

Good that at least the Leafs were pursuing it, although I think Brodeur is kinda done. Brodeur also said some positive stuff he didn't have to say.

Why can't we ever have a goalie like him, hell a player at any position like that.

- GoneFullRetard

There is one main reason i wish he came.. mentor Reimer and tell Allaire to STFU.

He would have been a good leader for this team, and by the sounds of it, he would have come if NJ didnt offer him the 2 years he wanted. However, I'm glad Brodeur stayed a Devil, I would not be able to see him in any other jersey.

How you know it's a lie: no immediate follow up tweet saying he's been traded to one of the two.

I know Suter is great, but I'm sorry, this is NOWHERE NEAR worth it!

I'd be willing to bet that Suter will not be the same d-man without Weber.

I agree with you, I always thought Suters play will decline without Weber. We could be wrong, its just a hunch.

I hope the new CBA has a term length limit of 5 years... The players would never agree to it but it would be better for the game and fans...

Agreed, too bad that would cause a lockout

Maybe a max 7 years? These 12-13 years are ridiculous

You only think they are ridiculous because the Leafs don't have anyone worth keeping more than 7 years.

If we had Crosby or Stamkos or Getzlaf, you'd love a 13 year contract.

If i played for them and only got offered a 5-6 year deal, i'd feel devasted they didn't want me. Aren't most of their guys locked up till Armageddon?

agreed. I'm all for keeping your best players, but the long term contracts are killing the NHL. You're getting lots of people stuck in long term deals that end up causing problems.

1. they are being used to circumvent the cap. Which will most likely be deemed illegal in the new CBA. So that will be addressed. They should implement a new rule where all years in a contract must be a certain percentage of the cap hit.

2. I'm sure the players might look at limiting some term. Lu is now stuck because Vancouver signed him to a massive deal, only to want to move him. In any other circumstance, he would've been taken by now. The contract is just to long and for to much.

I think Weber's play will actually decline without Suter. Kind of like Phaneuf after Calgary moved Hamrlik (Very underated d-man)

Having someone like Crosby who is 25 signing until he is 35 is fine, he's the best player in the world and 35 is not that old.

Stamkos for 13 years now would bring him until he's 36, still not bad at all.

But Suter getting that until he's 40? Especially a player who has never played without Weber in the NHL? How do you know he's going to warrant his contract? If he doesnt, well then your stuck with him at a high cap hit and thus being overpaid.

I'm glad Burke doesnt throw out these deals.

Great listen. I'll take Poulin's media accessibility over Burke's hyperbole anyday.
