maybe it shows how much value roy had - b0s0o1
Roy has a track record of producing in multiple NHL seasons. That doesn't go away after his first bad year. This was a typical protect Lindy Ruff move. The only silver lining is that when the team goes nowhere again this season, the outrage will be enough that even Pegula will here it way up there on his money pile. |

Who? Surely not Ott. They saved a whooping $1 million in cap space on this deal and lose the guy who is in his contract year. They're losing a major point producer!
I can't see anything Darcy does now that will make swapping a 1/2 line center for a 3rd line winger a good move. If he goes after another center, why couldn't he have used Roy in that deal to get a better player? - lacaprup
a major point producer?...not last season...
and in his most productive years--2007-2009--they missed the playoffs, even with those offensive juggernauts like max, connolly and kotalik

Good trade for both teams. Sabres increased their toughness and Dallas gets back a player who will probably give them 70pts. next year.
Some other thoughts:
-This signing means Weber is here for sure, which poses a numbers problem on defense. I think we will see a trade coming.
-Same thing is true at winger right now. Look at the following lines:
Vanek - Hodgson - Pommer
Foligno - Ennis - Stafford
Leino - ?Grigerenko? - Ott
That leaves: Gerbe, Tropp, Kaleta, McCormick, Scott, Ellis. That's a log jam. So does gerbe go? Is there a market for Leino if you include others (like Pysyk and Armia)? Could Vanek and/or Pommer be gone? - Zeebadaboodee
I think none of these players are a safe bet to stay. Any of the them could go as a part of package in a trade. |

A major point producer who's best contribution to this team, at least since the summer of 2007, was leaving the lineup for the year. - buffalofan19
Yeah, because leading the team in points for 3 of the last 5 seasons is a horrible thing to do.
I can really see why the city of Buffalo has one newspaper, one sports talk station, one political party. As soon as the mouthpiece comes out with the company line, all of you toe it without fail. Life muse be great as a sheep. It sucks for me, I can think on my own. |

Look, change had to be made.
Roy is gone.
Get over it, already. |

To keep scape-goating players so that you can have the same terrible coach for 15 seasons.
I'm also not opposed to trading Roy, but not for a totally useless player like Ott. - lacaprup
I am not going to argue with you about ruff but at least they are making changes and understanding the current formula isn't workin. Maybe the changes are not what you agree with. It at least they are making changes |

Points mean next to nothing if they don't translate to wins. When Derek Roy was "producing", this team wasn't winning. When he left the lineup, the team started winning. He needed to go.
And trust me, I'm well known for "thinking on my own". My distaste for the blue collar mentality that enamors the majority of fans around here doesn't go unnoticed, and isn't very popular. |

Yeah, let's take 6 games to judge a career instead of the 541 games he has in the books. Wise. |

The problem is those 6 games were the most important ones. |

I will say the Mike Schoop is the only person at WGR that has EVER criticised Lindy Ruff for any reason. The rest of them are all company men.
It surprosing really, because I think their Bills coverage is superb.
Does this mean that because they are the voice of the Bills now that they can no longer criticise them fairly? |

Thank you! I'm sick of hearing why we should keep Roy. Not sure he's ever played a full season...can't be a point producer from the press box. We got an actual value player in Ott. Admittedly, not the greatest we could have gotten but after Roy's little cry-fest at locker cleanout he had to be moved. |

i still think a 3way trade between us, cbj and ana would work to get us getzlaf and ryan.
we gotta give to get though, which means staff and vanek would be gone, along with probably myers |

More important than the 06 playoffs when he had 15 points in 18 games and was a +7? |

well, using that logic, look at ruff's regular season record...don't judge him in the playoffs when it really counts...
it's a tougher league, and roy still wants to play like it's 2006 when it was easy |

When he was on the 3rd line and didn't draw the top line matchups that were so focused on Briere's and Drury's line? Absolutely. When the spotlight was on him, he failed. He wasn't alone, but he failed. |

This is what annoys me. You people bash every player that leaves with not a single fact to back you up! Not sure he's ever played a full season... what does that even mean?
05-06: 70 games
06-07: 75 games
07-08: 78 games
08-09: 82 games
09-10: 80 games
10-11: 35 games
11 - 12: 80 games
Honestly, get a clue. |
