We traded toilet paper for sandpaper.......based on what everyone said about Roy, he has crapped out on his team a number of times; the only knock on Ott is that he takes too many penalties, but that is something that will go down with maturity and Ruff's influence. One thing about Ott, he makes players around him better. Therefore, I expect that he will play with Leino and Semin (if he signs in Buffalo)...pulling those guys into a lot of stuff along the way.

The only thing that Roy did for his teamates is getting them into some great pictures and he never made anyone better around him.

- RicoMartin

He's almost 30. I'm not sure how much more "mature" he's going to be.

I don't either. I wouldn't call myself a lover or a hater. I think he has skills, but I also think this is part of the shake up this team needs. I wouldn't doubt that he goes to Dallas and scores 70+ points this year. It is what it is. We got what I think was needed more than anything.
- HonkFortheGoose

Contract year and does have some pretty skilled guys up front with him.

Wouldn't doubt he gets back to that 70-80 point range.

Don't care if he does or doesn't, I love this trade.

I love it as well. Ott is exactly the type of player this team needed. I have a feeling that there won't be as many people questioning our team toughness when the 1st puck drops this year.

Cause he wasn't traded to Pittsburgh.

Haha, he would still be our 4th line center after Sutter.

He had a bad year. so what. players have bad years. Roy also plays pp and pk. he's a scorer, he's not going to fight and throw his body around. Not his game.

He wasnt going to be playing in rochester next year if he was still on the team. If so, who was going to take his spot? i think you need to check your source.

when the sabres dont make the playoffs again, i wonder whos fault it will be this time?

- alexthegr8

Wow u must not watch much hockey to think that trading Roy for Ott was a bad move. Forget the points they put up. No one will argue that Roy will put up more points. It's everything else that Ott has that Roy can't bring to the table. After the Boston game last year Buffalo was blasted by the media for doing nothing. U want more softies on this team? Remember when Roy went down this team played better. Forget Roy he over passes and takes a ton of stupid penalties. Plus look at what Montreal just did in free agency by getting some big tough guys. Did u forget we are in the same division as Boston and Montreal. Get over Roy and his points plus the fallout with Lindy at locker cleanup he needed to go. I still see more change coming

The Sabres also played their best hockey in 4 years when he exited that career year. The argument should (and does) end there.
- buffalofan19

And this year they played even better than last year post All-Star break and he was playing. That was the most overused inaccurate argument ever by Roy bashers.

Complete and total lie.

10/11 Roy goes out on Dec 23rd(game 35)

team goes 29-12-6 without him

11/12 using game 36 as the starting point

Team goes 22-16-7 with him. (he missed Jan 7 and 10. 0-1-1)

Hence why I said later in the year. If you compare their records after the all star break:

2010-2011 - 33 GP 20-8-5 45 points
2011-2012 - 33 GP 19-8-6 44 points

So I was still wrong. They were 1 point worse. By the way though, if you omit the last 5 games (which were the difference between making and missing the playoffs the last 2 years) they were 5 points better this past season. Going 1-3-1 in their last 5 as opposed to 4-0-1 the previous year made the difference.

10/11 after Roy's injury
Dec 1-1
Jan 8-3-1
Feb 6-4-2
March 10-4-2
April 4-0-1

11/12
Dec 0-2-1
Jan 4-7-1
Feb 7-3-3
March 10-4-2
April 1-1-1

I like how you want to omit games to prove your point. Fact is they weren't better in 10/11 over 11/12.

I like how you like to omit words I wrote in my original post to make yours. Bottom line is up until the last 5 games where they ran out of gas this year they were better than last year's team after the All-Star break WITH Roy. And even with that last crappy 5 games they were 1 point worse WITH Roy. I don't care that the guy is gone, but people make WAY too much out of the fact they played well without him.
