He puts up points so to say he's got no value to anyone is stupid. There's always going to be a team out there who's desperate for a guy who produces, especially at center. Buffalo got a good deal for him.
I'm a little surpised that Pardy was included though. Considering the logjam on the Sabres D you would think Regier would have pushed for a forward prospect or a draft pick instead. Maybe he's just trying to reassemble Calgary's defense from 2009 - Jeffmt
dallas wanted to dump his 2m cap hit is my guess...i doubt we wanted him, more had to take him. |

exactly, and thats why we needed to get somebody who does that sorta thing. I did check my source, thats why I said that. If they could not move him he would be in Roch, plain and simple. Not because he isnt good enough, but because he his 4m would have been spent elsewhere.
You obviously have a man crush on Roy for whatever reason, because 95% of people think this is a great trade for the Sabres.
I have a good friend who is the pro scout for the Kings, he has no ties to the sabres. I asked him what he thought of the deal and he said we robbed them...he didnt think Roy would fetch us more than a mid round draft pick..but you know more than him right? - Homer
I got a flat screen TV for my ex-wife.
Now THAT was a great trade-

The Northeast is getting a lot tougher with the moves Montreal and Buffalo have made. As a Leafs fan that definitely concerns me because Burke hasn't done a lot to address that. JVR is big and that's good but I don't know if I'd call him gritty. Ottawa has gotten a lot softer though. I'll take solace in that. |

Im not trying to pick a fight, just saying 3M isnt much for a "3rd liner" its about average - Homer
I can't believe the hate for this trade.
Ott can play on the top pk unit and 2nd pp unit.
He'll hit everything that moves, stick up for his teammates, fight, has the ability to pot 20g and 20a, can play all three forward positions, and has the ability to fill in on any of the top 3 lines incase of injuries.
Love this move. |

Kevin Porter UFA from Colorado, former Hobey Baker winner, never has taken off in NHL...played 35 games last year....was traded with Mueller from Phoenix for Wolski |

Agreed. I thought for sure everyone around here would be rejoicing tonight. Instead all I found was more bickering than normal. |

Why do we want Peter Mueller? this guy is hurt all the time no thanks. - SABRES 89
Porter and Mueller may be projects that the University of Rochester can turn around. I am sure our coach down there is quite familiar with their abilities given his participation in US junior hockey over the years. |

All we've heard for yrs now is how Derek "I have herpes" Roy needs to be traded.
He gets traded for the exact thing this team needs and the Roy lovers are everywhere.

Someone earlier said that they're planning on using him and that McNabb definitely starts the season in Rochester. I don't know enough about him to have an opinion, but the consensus seems to be that he's more of a pylon than an actual NHL defenseman. |

The only real project Mueller is going to be is a science one. He's got more issues with his melon than Crosby does. |

Now that Ott is here, maybe he gives Weber the kick in the pants he needs. |

I don't either. I wouldn't call myself a lover or a hater. I think he has skills, but I also think this is part of the shake up this team needs. I wouldn't doubt that he goes to Dallas and scores 70+ points this year. It is what it is. We got what I think was needed more than anything. |

really? we traded a top 6 player for a third liner. roy has more career assist than ott has points. this is a horrible trade for buffalo.
Now we will have to rely on young players down the middle. sorry, but hodgson isnt a top 6 yet. also, If anyone thinks grigrenko is going to step in and play like he's malkin in his first year, theyre crazy. - alexthegr8
We traded toilet paper for sandpaper.......based on what everyone said about Roy, he has crapped out on his team a number of times; the only knock on Ott is that he takes too many penalties, but that is something that will go down with maturity and Ruff's influence. One thing about Ott, he makes players around him better. Therefore, I expect that he will play with Leino and Semin (if he signs in Buffalo)...pulling those guys into a lot of stuff along the way.
The only thing that Roy did for his teamates is getting them into some great pictures and he never made anyone better around him. |
