3 million can't ever really be a disaster.
70 mill cap, means the average player is making 3 - 3.3 mil. So really, all you have to do to earn that contract is just be average.
God, typing that made me sad. Remember the year after the lockout when the highest paid sabre made 3 mil? The cap has gone silly. - matty12345
Ott's contract isn't a disaster at all, which is why I'd be more than ok with having him on the Leafs at that price, but a steal? Not quite. It's about fair market value for a 15-20 goal scorer. |

a 15-20 goal score who does nothing else, yes...but Ott does a lot more. Heck, Prust just got 2.5 per and Ott is a lot better. |

Oh, I went back and realized you were complaining about GARTH. He reads like a belligerent fourteen year old. I never actually read his blogs, just come to post comments. But yeah, he's an embarrassment to sabres fans, journalism, and the human species in general. |

Prust got one hell of a deal for someone of his ability. I wonder if he even plays the full 4 years. Couple bad shoulders and a somewhat wonky knee if I remember correctly.

That's how we know when someone is new. When they admit they read the blogs. The rest of us, like you, know better than to do something as silly as that. |

Im not trying to pick a fight, just saying 3M isnt much for a "3rd liner" its about average - Homer
Generally speaking, when someone responds to a Leafs fan by pointing out how long it's been since they've made the playoffs, especially when the original post had nothing to do with the Leafs, that's exactly what they're trying to do. I get it, it's been a while. But I digress. You're right, $3M isn't out of the ordinary for a good 3rd liner. I agree with you. I'm not sure you could categorize that as a steal though. |

Right, I wanted Burke to go after Prust but not for what Montreal gave him. And I agree, Ott is a useful guy, it was a good trade for the Sabres. |

who's asking Grig to be Malkin first of all?
Derek Roy wore out his welcome here and had to go. If points is all you care about then yes, its a bad trade...although Ott and Roy averaged almost the same amount of points per game last year.
There is so much more to Ott's game than just points. We have to many guys like Roy, we need more sand paper on this team...Ott is tough, a team guy, kills penalties, is great on the draw, stands up for teammates, hits and drops the gloves. All this for a guy who was going to be in Rochester if we couldnt trade him....I'll take that 8 days a week - Homer
He had a bad year. so what. players have bad years. Roy also plays pp and pk. he's a scorer, he's not going to fight and throw his body around. Not his game.
He wasnt going to be playing in rochester next year if he was still on the team. If so, who was going to take his spot? i think you need to check your source.
when the sabres dont make the playoffs again, i wonder whos fault it will be this time?

I think if Ott was a FA today he'd get around 4M...I could be wrong but I think that's where he'd land, thus I think he is a good bargain for 2.9M |

Well, according to the Walrus........er.....Paul Hamilton on WGR, Roy had no value what so ever. Plus, moving him is addition by subtraction. |

I'm sure the scapegoat this year will be Miller. It's already started leaning that way and Roy wasn't even gone yet. |

exactly, and thats why we needed to get somebody who does that sorta thing. I did check my source, thats why I said that. If they could not move him he would be in Roch, plain and simple. Not because he isnt good enough, but because he his 4m would have been spent elsewhere.
You obviously have a man crush on Roy for whatever reason, because 95% of people think this is a great trade for the Sabres.
I have a good friend who is the pro scout for the Kings, he has no ties to the sabres. I asked him what he thought of the deal and he said we robbed them...he didnt think Roy would fetch us more than a mid round draft pick..but you know more than him right? |

He puts up points so to say he's got no value to anyone is stupid. There's always going to be a team out there who's desperate for a guy who produces, especially at center. Buffalo got a good deal for him.
I'm a little surpised that Pardy was included though. Considering the logjam on the Sabres D you would think Regier would have pushed for a forward prospect or a draft pick instead. Maybe he's just trying to reassemble Calgary's defense from 2009 |
