Derek Roy wore out his welcome here and had to go. If points is all you care about then yes, its a bad trade...although Ott and Roy averaged almost the same amount of points per game last year.
There is so much more to Ott's game than just points. We have to many guys like Roy, we need more sand paper on this team...Ott is tough, a team guy, kills penalties, is great on the draw, stands up for teammates, hits and drops the gloves. All this for a guy who was going to be in Rochester if we couldnt trade him....I'll take that 8 days a week - Homer
You are trying to tell me Roy would have been in Rochester if we didnt find a trading partner? Not a chance. And that is coming from a Roy hater. If Roy stayed, he probably would have still been a top 2 Center on our team, very far from Rochester my friend. The move was addition by subtraction. Stars wanted him more than we need. We got someone in return that we wanted more than the Stars. Both teams benefited. As for who won the trade? We wont know for a year or two. All that matters is we got rid of a cancer on the team despite being talented and got a guy who has the grit and work ethic we needed.
Are victories measured by grit and hard work on the scoreboard? No but it could very well lead to what does count on the scoreboard and that is outscoring your opponents by playing hard for your team, putting them in position to score and keeping the other team from scoring with big hits, pesky play creating turnovers and boosting team morale when needed. And lets be real, the offensive production isnt far off for the intangibles we got in return.
just because he "needed" to go doesnt justify this move. Ott is no where near roy as far as talent level. roy can play 35 games and still have more points than ott. - alexthegr8
Again, the game isnt just about points. Different type of players.
And really? Last year Ott averaged .53 ppg, Roy .55 basically no difference at all.

Then why didn't he do it last year?
Ever think Roy just doesn't give a damn anymore? Because I got that sense a lot last year.
This is a good move on so many ways. This team has gotten pushed around for far far too long, and I know just about everyone on here was sick of see it happen.

Bsy day at work after my vacation... I seem to have a knack for staying away when everyone's at each others throats. - nfph
I was at work, so I missed most of it. I'm pretty sure the individual that was causing a raucous was the same one that told me I get preferential treatment because I'm a girl a few days ago.

who's asking Grig to be Malkin first of all?

I am 100% sure Roy would have been in Rochester. That is what I was told and no reason to believe otherwise.

Jumping from Jr to the pros is tough. Travel, speed, 82 games is a lot to take in, I could be wrong but I would rather have him go back to Jr and sign someone else. - BigStew
If his conditioning is an issue, I'd rather he be here working with our strength and conditioning coaches. Obviously the ones for his Jr team haven't been getting the job done.
Most good third liners make 3M...maybe thats why you guys havent made the playoffs since when? - Homer
Funny you should mention the Leafs because when Armstrong was signed for $3M everyone around here was calling it a disaster of a deal. I'm sure you weren't one of those people though...

Obviously the Armstrong deal was a bad one, since the Leafs bought him out recently. But hey, what do we know?

I'm surprised anyone here bothered to mention an Armstrong signing, really. No offense intended...no just hate those "everyone on here was saying" posts.
Have you heard the plan for Girgensons? I saw somewhere a couple scouts said he should be in the AHL next year... Any chance he's in rochester? - Fotes18
My source said he will not play in college and they will try hard to sign him and get him in Roch.

3 million can't ever really be a disaster.
70 mill cap, means the average player is making 3 - 3.3 mil. So really, all you have to do to earn that contract is just be average.
God, typing that made me sad. Remember the year after the lockout when the highest paid sabre made 3 mil? The cap has gone silly.

I don't know if its conditioning or not, I'm just not a big fan of bringing up 18 year old kids and playing them, just my opinion, doesn't mean its right or wrong. For the few that excel at that age their are lots that don't. I'm just not sure he give us the best opportunity to win now. Maybe he turns into the next Couterier (sp?) or the next Brendl, I guess we'll wait and see.

I was gonna say, of his 3 options next year, Vermont I feel like would be the worst? Not that it's a bad option. I would just rather have him in Kelowna, or Rochester.
