If Grigorenko is our 3rd line centre (or makes the team for that matter) I think we are in trouble.

why?

its a great trade for us, unless you mean horrible for Dallas. Its exactly what we need.
- Homer

really? we traded a top 6 player for a third liner. roy has more career assist than ott has points. this is a horrible trade for buffalo.

Now we will have to rely on young players down the middle. sorry, but hodgson isnt a top 6 yet. also, If anyone thinks grigrenko is going to step in and play like he's malkin in his first year, theyre crazy.

i would guess when he plays it will be up front. A lot easier to play basically 11 forwards than 5 D

Why? He was one of the guys that was slated to be able to jump in right after the draft and make an impact. Or did you miss that in his scouting report?

Depends on his ability. Philly was loaded and an 18 year old made there team and was one of their best players.

Though at this point, I rate his chances of making the team a little worse than 50/50.

Roy needed to go, Darcy should start moving out the rest of the core. I'd do the Ott deal all day.

Why is everyone so afraid to let the young guys just go out and play? That's what happened in 05-06 and look at where it took us. I say let them go at it. Regier said he was building around the young guys.

That was my thinking as well. I was really scratching my head yesterday when I got the message about him being a Dman. I got that he was brought in for his toughness, just didn't see how it fit. Now it makes sense.

Don't think he's ready, IMO very few 18 year old kids are. From the reports I've read he needs to be more consistent and his work ethic needs to improve.

If he is our 3rd line centre that would give us 3 guys under 23 I believe playing centre, none of which I would call exceptional in their own zone.

who's asking Grig to be Malkin first of all?

Derek Roy wore out his welcome here and had to go. If points is all you care about then yes, its a bad trade...although Ott and Roy averaged almost the same amount of points per game last year.

There is so much more to Ott's game than just points. We have to many guys like Roy, we need more sand paper on this team...Ott is tough, a team guy, kills penalties, is great on the draw, stands up for teammates, hits and drops the gloves. All this for a guy who was going to be in Rochester if we couldnt trade him....I'll take that 8 days a week

Why do you say that? You dont know how talented he is or how well he may gel with certain players? He may be a nice offensive youth injection. I wouldnt say we are in trouble because if he makes it, he would be doing it deservedly so. Its not like we would be handing it to him. I think if anything, he would have to go above and beyond to earn it rather than make it a coin flip decision for the front office so if he is there, he is there for a reason and that reason is because the people who are in charge of the team and get paid a lot of money to do this as a job, think he deserves to be there and can help the team compared to another route they could have went.

Garth, in what world is $3M for a 3rd liner a steal? I know you like to stick to the extreme end of "cup half full" when it comes to the Sabres but that just sounded dumb. Don't get me wrong, I like the trade and I'd take that contract on the Leafs any day but try calling like it is from time to time.

Jumping from Jr to the pros is tough. Travel, speed, 82 games is a lot to take in, I could be wrong but I would rather have him go back to Jr and sign someone else.

just because he "needed" to go doesnt justify this move. Ott is no where near roy as far as talent level. roy can play 35 games and still have more points than ott.

Most good third liners make 3M...maybe thats why you guys havent made the playoffs since when?
