Should have let him walk to Edmonton. We lost Drury and Briere. Shouldve let him walk. We wouldnt have been struggling to remain mediocre these past 4 years and wouldve been on a fast track to a proper rebuild.
Vanek is the black plague. Always has been. - theblueandgold
agreed
we were rebuilding the second both of those centers left
my other problem is I think lindy plays vanek out of position
vanek has the best shot on the team, and not fast
he should be playing in the slot on rw not down low on lw
if nothing else the injuries would be reduced
foligno, ennis, vanek
semin, coho, staff
leino, ott, pommer
thoughts?
yeah yeah I know the sabres are calling ott a winger
1st team pp
semin, ennis, vanek, pommer, hoff
second team pp

4th in the NHL in plus minus in the last 4 seaosns (for forwards), ahead of Datsyuk. He is being under rated right now - sbroads24
My post the other day and earlier this afternoon went severely overlooked.
But the problem with Washington has/had nothing to do with Semin. Ovechkin was more of the problem in Washington. Not sure why Pierre and Ray and Crawford all trashed on him on the TSN show the other day.
Sure, hes absolutely not the leader that Parise is. I get that. But hes just as much if not more offensively talented than Parise. He should be paid at least $5.5M a year. Guaranteed 20 goals, 60 points just like Pommer. Thats on a low year. He has potential for 30 goals and 70 points. |

My sources told me that the Sabres want to try to make a deal for Ryan or Nash, but they are still hammering out the logistics of Matt Ellis's new 10 year 6.5 million dollar extension. Once that is over their attention will shift - sbroads24

I would still keep Stafford with Ennis. Vanek isnt fast enough to keep up with Ennis. Look how many 2v1's Ennis and Stafford had at the end of the year. They were getting what seemed like 2 per game for the final 20. |

I dont think Lindy is misusing Vanek. I think Vanek is lazy. If he put more effort into his skating, moving around, working the corners, using his size to be more physical (i dont mean hitting people and blowing them up, but being more aggressive like malkin, shielding people with his frame) he would be so much better than he is.
we saw more effort out of Vanek when he was scoring 40 goals a season. Hes slowed down and become so lazy.

It isn't effort, and it's not because he's lazy. He looks lazy sometimes because he's a big guy and has a bit of an awkward stride to begin with. His 40 goal season wasn't because of more effort, but more so because of the favorable matchups he received by not facing the big guns. |

I just don't think he's in very good shape these days. He looks noticeably heavier than he has in years past. |

He also scored 40 goals in a season when he was on the first line. He scored 36 goals when he was on the first line.
When you argue "favorable matchups and facing the big guns" was a reason he was able to score more, it actually takes value away from him. Night in and night out, the people at the top of the league have to face the toughest matchups and they still produce. If Vanek cant produce (and he has scored 40 goals when he was on #1 line) against the top defense, then hes not good. Tired of hearing this argument. Its irrelevant. |

I can't disagree with you more. He shields a lot of people.
Vanek gets the absolute sh!t kicked out of him in front of the net on a nightly basis. Half of his goals are rebounds/deflections/hustle-type plays in front of the net. |

Homer, just out of curiosity, but where do they see Ott playing?
He seems like a natural fit for 3rd/4th line C (55% FO) - CaptPantalones
he's too good to play on the fourth line...God I hope Lindy doesnt play him on the 4th line. |

It's not a bad hockey deal, but you guys definitely could have gotten more.
I'm a religious Stars fan. Ott's a good player but he's been over-rated big time ever since his name got thrown around at the trade deadline. After reading some of these comments, I can see it's only gotten worse.
Perfect third line center for any contending team. Nothing else. Dont expect tons of offense either because he's not even the least bit consistent in that regard. - mochoson
Nobody wanted Roy, especially Buffalo.....we did just fine. |
