Doaner is a winner with BC roots. You're going to have to overpay a bit, but as others have stated, he has the characteristics that this teams missing to win the Cup. I think 3 years @ $5 mill is right on point Not a bad 'sunset' contract for Doan - TLinden16

trade deadline.
Will this have any effect on what Lack agrees too? |

Agreed and we can afford it with the cap going up. MG is in no rush, but his asking price needs to come back down to earth a bit. |

The only problem is cap space. We have $5.3 mil left with 2 spots to fill. Notto mention future years.
Next year will have Burrows, Lapierre and Higgins come free. I can't imagine management would let them all walk. And BUrrows is going to be due a massive increase. $4-$5 Mil. |

It does but as long as contracts keep going up Lu will start looking like Prime Grade A |

I am glad a Canuck fan said this...had it been a fan from another team they would get ripped.
The $$$ is whatever but the term is crazy for somebody who's only had one great half season. Once teams realized what he was doing, they tightened up on him and he didn't do as much.
2/3 years seems more reasonable. - o__o__o
He's known as a shutdown defensmean who's very good defensively. He scored 16 goals last year. a shutdown defensmean that can score that many goals is worth more than 4.6 I dont care if it was only one year. He's a late bloomer. |

I'm also wondering what happens if Luongo (re)takes the starting position. |

Basically the same as Parenteau, I'd prefer Parenteau but CGY desperately needs some speed and skill. Not a bad move, but I'm not a Hudler fan. |

@DarrenDreger Gillis said he had no contact with Hudler's agent. Flames obviously did.
Ek reported Canucks were chasing Hudler last week.

I think Luongo will get traded by then. I expect that MG will try to move Ballard before next summer as well. Plus Manny's contract is off the books. I think that can fit in with Doan making 5 mil. |

I feel for you, I will always have Calgary as my second favorite team strictly because of Iggy. The crap he's had to put up with for so long being the captain and face of that franchise getting little to no help and only getting to the SCF once and no ring and refuse to demand a trade shows how class he is. Plus what he did, bringing the team back to shake hands with Trevor after his last game was beyond class. |

I like Calgary too. It is a better division when they are a contender. |

this makes the stempniak signing a bad move.
My worry now is that the flames lost a lot of grit except the 4th line (except glenX). two small guys in hudler/Cammy. and a lot of centres that play small.
maybe they're stocking up for a trade...but I'm not expecting it.
Hope canucks do go for Doan. I thought Nolan would play the tough lead role a couple years back. But Doan would be great.

oh don't get your panties in a knot. I don't think any of them do.
Garrison was a fair value, just a bit to long of a contract (I feel the same way about wideman....but the NMC is the real issue).
I don't you'll hear anyone defending this signing. it makes stemper unnecessary.
