Would have preferred that statement to come with an over-payment on Parise or Suter, but I guess you're right. - AlexF
The problem with that is that those guys would have to want to play here... Nothing worse than fans blaming a GM for not signing "their guy" when there was no way that player would sign here. So far, neither player has expressed any interest in playing on the left coast. |

I think it is a lot of money, considering he earned less than $700k last year, but he has shown over two years that he can play solid d at the NHL level on a not so good team. I expect him to do well here, but there is a significant risk that he becomes the next Ballard. - 1970vintage
We needed some sort of an upgrade on D . Contracts don't come cheap anymore. By this time next year Luongos contract is going to be a steal. Wait till Parise and Suter sign today . |

And I doubt this weather will help them change their minds.
I saw the Nash to Van rumors, as well as Doan to Van. I'd be happy with Doan. |

Taking a big risk signing a guy (Garrison) for that kind of cash and length based on 1 good season. Really hope this turns out well because other this could end up worse than Ballard. - AlexF
I am glad a Canuck fan said this...had it been a fan from another team they would get ripped.
The $$$ is whatever but the term is crazy for somebody who's only had one great half season. Once teams realized what he was doing, they tightened up on him and he didn't do as much.
2/3 years seems more reasonable. |

Is it just me, or has Florida become Vancouver's farm team? Almost half our team has come from Florida it seems. |

Garrison scored 11 of his 16 goals before december, and only 3 goals in his last 29 games. To give the guy 4.6 for 6 years seems like a bit much. He does have a great shot but isn't that great offensively, he took advantage of the fact that he wasn't looked at as a threat early on and tore it up. By the end of the year he was struggling to put up points, he is good defensively but without his offense this signing will look terrible, wait a year and everyone will be hating on him. |

He will fit in well here then, our team stopped scoring in Feb also. |

Yeah, Doan would be a great addition, he's going to get $5ish million, I think it will depend on how long of a term Vancouver offers. He will be 36 in October, the way he plays, will he make it to 40, I doubt it? |

Honestly I don't get why people think this signing is such a big risk? Ballard looks bad because of AV. I watched him in Florida and Phoenix and he is a good defenseman. He has gotten the shaft since he went to Vancouver.
Garrison is a young solid D-man coming into his prime. I understand its only one good year offensively but regardless of that fact he was among the league leaders in goals for D-men. He still needs to have an accurate shot and a hard slapshot to score. On a team that leads the league in offense yearly with his shot and getting passes from the Sedins he will at least match last years numbers and in my opinion surpass them. I think Gilli did a great job getting him here for the amount. Bryan Allen got 3 something million for crying out loud with no offense in his game. Let's not forget JG is already a very good defenseman and brings size to go along with the offense he will provide. |

Honestly, you can only do so much to stop a guy with a 100mph slapper from the point. Everyone knows Salo can shoot it but it didn't seem to stop him. |

I wouldn't bet on it. A mediocre D-man like Allen just got 3 something million and provides no offense. |

I say to win the cup you are going to have to take some risks, so signing Doan to a 4 year, with the 4th year being a team option, is a good bet. It could turn sour on us if Sedins/Kesler production drop drastically in 2/3 years and Doan is only good enough to play on the 4th line, but that is a lot of things that have to go wrong, so I would take that risk. |

Doan would be a great addition, but 5 million, man, I don't know. But he's pretty close to just what we need in the top 6, character guy, would be a great fit, not sure if that is too much for him, hard call.
On Rick Nash, why even bother with the speculation, he's not going to Vancouver. Eklund just posts these things to keep fans of various teams coming to the site; every team gets a mention at some point, it's marketing. |

its a good value based on the prices going on with this years UFA.
Wasn't a lateral move, the teams better now |

Would love to see Doan wearing the angry whale. He's got guts and skill. Slowed down a step but can still pick a team up on his back and carry them through a low spot in a season or a series. |

Was just told Florida is OUT on Luongo. They had interest but grew tired of the Canucks demands and are moving on. (e4)

Ryan Stoa - 25 years old, 37 NHL games, 7 points. Best AHL season was 2009-10 when he had 40 points in 54 games. What does he bring to the table that you want so much? - kingminers
Ian, doesn't the little man in your head ever tell you to stop writing, if so, take his advice. Garrison could be the next Ballard, jaybo, and etc. funny how these d-men score all of these points in Florida then stop producing in other city's. Ryan stoa? Who? Are you sure you shouldn't be blogging for lawn bowling. |
