“I believe our group(GM’s) makes more mistakes on July 1, then we do all the rest of the year combined. I think we hand out contracts with unrealistic values and unrealistic term. I think these are things when you’re in a hard cap system that bites you right in the butt at some point."

Did he not say this about the Trade Deadline as well?

- Lee Denault

Yes. But he's not worrying about those days. He's working some deals now and they will get done.

yes, though at that time he said "the Trade deadline and July 1st, our group ... yada yada"

in fairness, they keep asking him the same question - they're gonna get the same answer

- Big_Lightnin

I don't care about his morale code.

Get the best players by signing them to those ridiculous contracts that other teams are willing to do.
IMO he is putting the leafs at a disadvantage by not doing so.

I'm sure they will. He's just pissing me off as of late. I know things take time. And a lot of teams haven't done anything yet.

oh, I just remembered..

"we may need to look internally for a top line center"

Give me a f-in break. Unless that was a message to one of his trading partners.

It's frustrating I know. Let's just hope if he does deal that it more than makes up for our poopty TDL and UFA Day.

I'm sure we will get a huge name for a big price... and it will be the talk of message boards for years to come.

But god damn. This is the Toronto Maple Leafs and the only team not to make the playoffs since lockout. That's embarrassing.

Didn't want Brodeur anyways. He's not well liked by his peers.

Can't win poop with an alright bottom 5

dont get me wrong, I like the youth movement, a lot.

I like the frattin signing. I'm excited for Holzer and Blacker. I think colborne could be nice with JVR.

Losing sucks...and I've had enough.

I gotta say, besides not getting Schultz, I'm very happy with what the Leafs did yesterday.

- We turfed Armstrong, made room for some younger guys.

- McClement is an upgrade for our bottom 6 -- another defensive guy who's a good option on our #2 PK with a decent faceoff percentage (51%).

- we didn't sign a 1-dimensional fighter like Parros.

- we didn't sign any 4th liners to ridiculous term/salary like Prust.

- we have room in our roster now for Marlies guys to step up (especially with Frattin in a lengthy rehab and possibly not making camp) like Kadri, D'Amigo, Holzer, and Colborne.

Hey maybe I am not the only sensible fan of this organization. Good on you dude. I agree 100%

rather keep assests then trade them to get to 8th and a 1st round exit.

We have way too many wingers. I don't know what Burke plans to do but a trade has to go down. He said that Holzer and Blacker might fight for spots on the D while we already have Phaneuf/Gunner/Gardiner/Liles/Komi/Franson. He said a guy like D'amigo would replace Crabb when we already have (T6)Lupul/Kessel/Kulemin/JVR and (B6) Mac/Kadri?/Frattin/Komarov/Brown/Orr. Something has to happen soon.
- JVR2112

You should never take the words of a professional GM literally. ITs best to ignore them altogether, unless hes not speaking about his roster. As for having too many wingers, thats just silly. Skill is skill, and if they could add 2 allstar wingers today, they'd do so.

I'm with ya too.

Aside from Parise, I am not interested in any UFA. And Parise will be way too much, so (frank) it.

Rather see the other 3 lines solidified, and a Decent Goalie before we chase after the final piece.

....Andwe could still tade for that...

Thats a total Paddlin'.

Almost every contact signed yesterday will come back and bite the team on the ass, though none of them are worse than Quick's contract.

Not sure who's reporting...maybe @Eklund , but Brian Burke couldn't be more emphatic in saying Toronto is NOT in on Nash. As you were..

Yeah Parise is going to sign a very stupid contact. Parise is - and I watched both guys play upwards of 40 times last year - not even close to Kessel. Signing him would be good, but not for 12 /80 or whatever hes gonna sign.
