The bought out players get to sign another deal for less money therefor increasing their revenue. I agree about the small market having less money to do so. - Symba007
It would be a smaller scale issue because it would affect such a small number of players. I doubt it would be a huge issue but rather one of the smaller topics that gets thrown in to balance the scales in negotiations. It could create a little infighting with the owners though. |

He's absolutely bang on with everything.
When Burke got here, his exact words were "July 1st will be our draft" and now suddenly it's the biggest mistake day of the year along with trade deadline....so there's those two main days GONE.
And it's always good to know that Fletcher is working in the background with his "draft, shmaft" attitude.
The best line Berger wrote was:
Burke’s “I-have-no-patience-for-a-five-year-plan” has very likely put the Leafs in a ten-year plan.
He was dead on with that.
Nobody doubts that while Burke has been trying to fast track this rebuild he has added very decent prospects that the franchise hasn't had in decades...but they're mostly 7-8 out of 10 type prospects with absolutely no 9 or 10 out of 10 A level guys.
He's Franked up big time and he knows it. Problem is he will never admit it. The Beauchemin trade is likely the only thing that's saved his job to this point...without that deal the Leafs would have finished dead last last season. - Juice
I agree.
Berger has written a pile of drivel over the years but that article is absolutely bang- on 100% correct.

By the time Fehr and the players are done with the owners and Bettman, all they are going to want, is some lube and a shoulder to cry on. The owners get gangbanged in this new CBA and they brought it all on themselves. |

I see two scenarios, both ending well for the players. It gets signed early in the players favor and we get a season. Or it doesnt, and it gets ugly and nasty, and personal between Fehr and Bettman, and the players still win only with a lot more disgust from the public about Bettman and the owners. Either way the players win. |

I agree to a point.. i wanted Burke to do nothing, only because he (frank)s up when he does something. - Leafland
The less damage he does on the way out of the door, the better. |

Same. I would have liked someone like Arnott instead of McClement. Arnott would be perfect for Carlyle on the 3rd line center position and play a shutdown role and is also a big body, he also provides leadership.
Then again, depends how much Arnott is asking for. |

It will probably be Nonis but we won't see any measure of success until Gillis takes over for him in about 6 years... lolz

So everybody wants Burke gone, but no idea about a replacement? Why hire inside the organization, do you not believe there is enough up and coming GM's or potential GMs available in another organization? An assistant GM somewhere maybe? |
