Yea, Phaneuf barely hit 214 times last season.

- Feeling Glucky?

That's great!!!

... except when you consider that the ACC Stats guys also credited me with 127 hits last year.

?? Aulie will be playing in the NHL, Ashton is not an NHL forward. How is that a landslide?

Ashton might one day replace Joey Crabb. That's it.

- Big_Lightnin

Aulie wasn't even in the top pairing for Norfolk, how is he a lock for the NHL? Considering TB's horrid defense, he should have been playing this year with them. Not saying he sucks now, but he took a major dive in development. Just saying if he plays like this again, we won by quite the margin. I think both players are very good tho, and it was an even trade.

Ashton will be better than Crabb, TB fans are just as sour about losing him as you are about losing Aulie.

I actually felt that Armstrong should be given a few weeks to prove his worth to the club...he had bad luck and injuries with the team last year. Plus, theres a few people who just bought his jersey that now NEED to have it restitched cause he plays for Montreal

I think it is pretty well known that "hits" is a pretty fluffy stat. Do you really think Luke Schenn was the best hitting Dman in the league; ridiculous.

I have already been credited with 4 hits for the 2012-2013 season.

Pffft Burke built a small soft non-trucelant team and you know it Huddle

And they're talented let alone tough. Kulemin still has one of the nicest snap shots I've ever seen. And those saying he came back down to earth need to realize Malkin couldn't say enough about how good he is going to be, then bam, 30 goal season. I will trust Geno that Kuli is the real deal.

- Boosinicka

I won't lie... it makes me sad that the Leafs are the softest team int he NE right now. I just have to be patient for these wingers to get here.

I haven't set foot in the ACC for more than a year...

Luke Schenn as 47 hits already for 2013-2014... someone needs to tell the ACC guys he was traded.

fixed.

They are not even close to being as tough as the 29th toughest team.

Eh I was kinda sarcastic, we are soft but I think that has to do more with Wilson's system than anything.

well, he played every game with Tampa after the trade...

I'm only sour about losing Aulie because Schenn was also traded. No shut-down guys on Leafs D anymore (aside from Komi, who we all want moved).

at this point in his career, there is no evidence that Ashton will be better than Crabb.

Quite possibly, yes. Who would have thought that when we hired Burke?

It's made all the worst when Montreal and Buffalo got tougher the past couple days.

do you really think averaging 3 hits a game for a Dman is a lot? That's sounds like 1 good shift to me...

Sadly, I am not convinced of that.

I would say it is a close race as to who is the flimsiest team in the league between Vancouver and Toronto.

Hits, takeaways and giveaways are a subjective stat, they should not be used in any argument about a player, using your own eyes and watching the game is the best indicator. With that being said, Luke was the most physical defenseman on the Leafs and he did make his fair share of hits, remember sometimes angling a player to the boards is credited with a hit.

As for giveaway and takeaways, that is even a bigger farce, I still remember one game in Detroit I was watching on NBC, Lidstrom passed the puck directly on the stick of a Chicago player who went in on a breakaway and scored the game winning goal, he wasn't even credited with a giveaway at home that game, not to mention the 4 other blatant giveaways he made, he ended up with 0 giveaways and 5 takeaways. That is that stat in a nut shell.

If the Leafs continue to be intimidated by larger, more physical teams, I would like to see them become cheapshot artists.

Lucic runs over a guy... then someone crosschecks him in the teeth later in the game. Break some teeth, or a jaw or a nose...

We have about 30 3rd and 4th liners. We can take some suspensions.

... I am only half kidding. We were so soft last year, it scary to think about how we cope this year as the NE bulks up.

silly rabbit

Why does being honest about the Leafs and the grossly inflated hits stat immediately suggest that something is missing in my life?
