We scoff at the idea of Nash and Luongo with their massive cap hits...

....yet beg Burke to sign a UFA which would cost the exact same, if not more..

TSN was guessing Parise could get a 100mil deal.

No thanks.

- IRON.MAIDEN

Those contracts, Richards, Penner and carter, just helped the Kings win a cup.

Yes please.

Ftr, I don't scoff at those two names.

I bet a lot of them are hang ups when they find out it's Burke.
- weirdoh

I totally agree. But Leaf fans on HB in their infinite wisdom know exactly what's going behind closed doors 24/7.

From the boss

Hockey Buzz Eklund ‏@Eklund

Ws just told by a VERY good source that JVR may have been the last piece Leafs Needed to Make Run at Nash?Remember the Jackets wanted him.

I really doubt it but stranger things have happened.

Also, this guy will be fun to watch

Kyle Cicerella ‏@KyleTheReporter

Komarov says he's "good guy" off the ice but when his helmets on its "time to do his job"

It's been alright. Getting a little antsy for the Leafs to pull of a deal though.

Who says he has not already talked to him?

Could of been made to clear Parise wanted nothing to do with the Leafs well before UFA day...

- IRON.MAIDEN

or at least on UFA day... Doesn't make sense as a destination for him at this time.

People are saying that Parise might get more than Crosby. A 9mil cap hit is too much for him and I like the way he plays. Something like a 6.7 mil cap hit long-term (Kovalchuk) is what I would want.

That's just it.

If we signed Parise for that, Leaf nation would (frank)ing cry their eyes out.

Pass.

Be funny if he signs this massive deal only to have the new CBA run it through the ringers.

In terms of value, a guy like Parise will start to break down half way into that contract because of the way he plays. You see guys like Jagr, and Selanne keep going at an old age because they don't necessarily play that physical game that Parise plays. He won't be worth his cap hit half way into his contract which is a supposed 12 years .

Dave Poulin was on sportsnet, said LEafs fans would be surprised about the names being tossed around in trade scenarios.

What's that mean? As in who the Leafs may get? Or who they want to get?

I'd like to see Jagr here. I always hated/loved that guy. He still makes you worried when he has the puck on his stick. Not as good as he was, but I'd have no problem with him.

“I believe our group(GM’s) makes more mistakes on July 1, then we do all the rest of the year combined. I think we hand out contracts with unrealistic values and unrealistic term. I think these are things when you’re in a hard cap system that bites you right in the butt at some point."

Did he not say this about the Trade Deadline as well?

yes, though at that time he said "the Trade deadline and July 1st, our group ... yada yada"

in fairness, they keep asking him the same question - they're gonna get the same answer

We have way too many wingers. I don't know what Burke plans to do but a trade has to go down. He said that Holzer and Blacker might fight for spots on the D while we already have Phaneuf/Gunner/Gardiner/Liles/Komi/Franson. He said a guy like D'amigo would replace Crabb when we already have (T6)Lupul/Kessel/Kulemin/JVR and (B6) Mac/Kadri?/Frattin/Komarov/Brown/Orr. Something has to happen soon.
